ORD Sheet Index

Is there a trick to moving sheets up and down in the Sheet Index? It appears that ORD will only allow new sheets to be added to the bottom of the index. Is anyone else running into this issue?

Thanks

  • I used Sheet Index on the last job I just did and I will NOT be using it again. Its a complete waste of time. You can get it all set up, but as everyone knows, moving sheets around is very time consuming. Also, as the Index gets larger, it takes longer and longer to process new sheets and any changes you make.

Once you get that sheet Index set up, you still have to go open ever Sheet Model of every sheet to get the number to update anyway, which is also time consuming.

What I am doing on my current project is creating my Index in Excel, which I LDM into the Keysheet for my Roadway Index anyway. Then I go into each dgn with Sheets, open up the Models dialogue, enter the sheet numbers in the Sheet Number column, and then open ever sheet model. Its definitely not the best thing ever, but much easier than dealing with Sheet Index.

Also, reach out to FDOT and tell them how much you enjoy old Sheet Navigator and how much you would like them to bring it back!

  • Man, oh man. I thought I was the only one having major issues with Sheet Index. Thanks for the tips Zachary, and I second your suggestion on FDOT bringing back the old Sheet Navigator. Don't get me wrong, it had it's on set of issues, but at least it wasn't so buggy.

Maybe I'm getting impatient as I grow older, but I don't think there's any excuse for an upgraded Microstation to lock up indefinitely while working in the background, at least not without something (a countdown timer at the very least?) telling us "Hey, I'm not locked up forever"! Sheet numbering and fields shouldn't be so difficult IMHO.

  • What I did on my most recent job has worked a little better. I still create that Index in Excel so I can keep track of everything. Its got a few more formulas in there that makes it easier to add and remove sheets, but its still just a guide.

I updated my pen table to turn off the Level TextShtNo, which is the level all the sheet numbers are on. Then, after I print, I just have Bluebeam (and im sure Adobe can do this too) add a footer on every sheet for the sheet number. I just adjust the footer so it fits in that box on every sheet.

This was way easier when i was working with my 650+ sheet plan set recently.

Still hoping for sheet navigator, but honestly, this method is pretty easy too.
