I have an existing drainage file, DREXRD01. When I attach it to any drawing, it shows up in the correct location and everything looks fine. Lets say I attach it to my MTPLRD01 so that it will show up in my PLANRDxx sheets. Everything looks fine in the MTPLRD01 file, but when I go to my PLANRD sheet, its not there. Then I go back to the MTPLRD01 file and the DREXRD01 file has moved and its way off in space somewhere.
I dont believe its anything to do with coordinate systems. I took the DREXRD01 file that I received from survey (and put it into the survey folder), created a new DREXRD01 file that i put in the drainage folder, and then copied the lines from the survey drawing to my new one. This should have resolved any issues with the drawing being messed up. I also set the correct coordinate system in my new file, but that probably didnt make a difference since none of my other drawings have coordinate systems assigned.
I am not really sure what to try next. Anyone had this type of problem before?
In the reference dialog of the PlanRD file you will need to turn on "Live Nesting" to get the file to display.
I had already created the plan sheets with the MTPLRD01 attached and live nested. The DREX file is there, it just moved way out in the middle of nowhere outside of my clip border.
I know this because if I am working in my DSGNRD01 file and attach the DREX file, it comes in fine. If I leave that file, go work on something else, and come back, the DREX is off in space again.

Yes I have had this exact same problem except with a TOPORD01 file. It is very strange and no matter how many times I move it back to be at the 0,0 origin, it will randomly move.
I just got a call from a co-worker working on this same project and he was having the problem with a topord01 file from our surveyor. I was able to confirm that file was moving as well and he was able to confirm that my DREXRD01 file was moving for him as well, so it is not an issue with just my computer, but rather the files in question.
Does anyone have any insight on this issue?
Check the working units of th files in question. One of the files is probably not set to Survey Feet, Survey Inches and 304800 resolution.
I believe I figured it out. I was typing out my response and it hit me what it could be and I was right.
I had placed the original DREXRD01 file in the survey folder and I thought that was giving me issues. So I created a brand new DREXRD01 file in the drainage folder and merged the linework from the one in the survey file into my new file.
This was still giving me the issue.
Then I discovered there was a drexrd01 file in my roadway folder that I didnt even know about. Because my MTPLRD01 file was in the roadway folder, every time I left that file and came back, it would automatically load the drexrd01 file in the roadway folder.
I checked this by saving relative path on the one in the survey folder and deleting the other two and everything is good now. Must have been something messed up with that one in the roadway folder.
So I guess the lesson is if you need to have files with the same name in different folders, make sure you are saving relative path so you are always using the one you want to use.
This is the exact reason you should NEVER have two files in a project with the sane file name. your project will not pass QC complience with references saved with Full Path enabled.
