FYI: Upgrade Microstation to Power GEOPAK for FREE before Dec 29

Wanted to share our experience - it was hugely beneficial.

Summary: Use Bentley's Portfolio Balancing to trade in your standalone Microstation licenses for Power GEOPAK and get a 50% increase in the number of licenses for free! Act now before the Dec 29th deadline for Portfolio Balancing.

(The following is what happened to us and what we were told is standard. Your mileage may vary.)

Bentley is upgrading all GEOPAK licenses to Open Roads Designer: Both the standalone Power GEOPAK and the add-on GEOPAK Civil Suite products (along with many other civil products) are being replaced by the new Open Roads Designer product being made available March 1, 2017. In preparation for that product release, Bentley is upgrading all existing applicable civil licenses to Open Roads Designer. The annual Maintenance Renewal Agreement no longer has lines that reflect GEOPAK products, and are replaced with Open Roads Designer. The Open Roads Designer license will grandfather in all of the applicable civil products allowing you to now use any of those products under the new license. If you are using the Microstation / GEOPAK Civil Suite combination, the GEOPAK Civil Suite license portion is upgraded to Open Roads Designer, which now makes you eligible to use Power GEOPAK under the new license. Notice that that leaves your Microstation license dangling / unused.

Portfolio Balancing will upgrade your Microstation licenses: Portfolio Balancing is a process that Bentley allows once a year at the end of the year for you to bring your license portfolio more in line with your usage/needs. Historically, there have been some minimum requirements that were difficult to meet for a small business. But currently they are offering a 2-for-1 Microstation to Open Roads Designer trade in. The net result of this offer is that you will gain a 50% increase of your useable licenses over your current Microstation licenses. For example: say you have 14 Power GEOPAK license and 6 Microstation / GEOPAK Civil Suite combos. The Open Roads Designer license upgrade now gives you 20 Open Roads Designer licenses and 6 Microstation licenses. With this state, you can now upgrade all your Microstation users to Power GEOPAK. But wait! There's more! You can now take your 6 dangling Microstation licenses and trade them in 2-for-1 for 3 additional Open Roads Designer licenses using Portfolio Balancing. The end result is that you originally had licenses for 20 users and now you have licenses for 23 users.

It has been a pleasant experience for us. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Note that Open Roads Designer is Bentley's transition into 64bit. The rumor out of ECSO is that they have already started working on porting the FDOT Workspace over and that 64bit will be available to us sometime in the first half of 2018.
