FDOT Menu disappearing when command is selected

QUESTION:

I have two people where the FDOT menu disappears when they select a command.  We can get it back by the keyin CADPILOT UI RELOAD POSITIONS, but selecting a command it disappears.  We have deleted the upf’s to no avail.  I am hoping you guys have seen this issue, I could not find any related post on the Bentley FDOT CADD support community.  It you want me to post to the forum I will do that as well.

RESOLUTION:

One of our engineers has been working at D7, Laura Medina I believe you guys met her at the last FLUG, she asked some the Roadway CAD staff about the problem.  One of the staff there had seen the issue and the fix is moving the menu to the middle or left of the MicroStation window and doing a save settings to fix it in that location.  What appears to be happening is the menu will jump to the right when selecting commands. We tested by moving to the middle of the screen and selecting a command before doing a save setting and menu would disappear and reappear further to the right.   With the default position in the upper right of the window it appears to be jumping of the screen on the right not able to be seen.   I don’t know if this is just an issue with our laptops and graphics drivers or is how it is operating.   The other person in our office it was happening to just started with us and he never had this happen at his old firm, but his equipment was a desktop and not a laptop.

  • If they are using a docking station (typically dual monitors) with their laptop then the difference in the resolution of their laptop display and the monitor(s) on the docking station could be the problem. If the bar menu is locked to the far right on the right-hand monitor, then it cannot display in that same x-y coordinate position on the laptop display when it is undocked since the laptop has no means to address that large of a pixel location. The Windows driver is *supposed* to intercept off-screen display location requests from the software and dynamically adjust them. A way to test this is to undock the laptop, adjust the menu position, save that position, then dock and see how that affects the behavior. That may end up being your work-around/solution. Then you can try the reverse - lock the menu to the far right of the right-hand monitor, undock and observe the behavior on the laptop display. It *should* display on the right edge. If these tests seem to indicate this being the issue, then understand that it is a driver/Windows problem - not a CadPilot problem. Another aspect that may contribute is whether or not Microstation is "full-screened" across the dual monitors, or if it is "windowed" (that is, stretched) across the dual monitors, or if it is dual-paned. I can see that there could be some real confusion in Windows if the bar menu position is saved to the right-hand pane when "dual-paned" on the monitors because when you go to the laptop display, the second pane cannot exist/display. Since the bar menu is attached to the 2nd pane, Windows may choose to not display the bar menu also. Experimenting with these concepts should give more clues at defining the aberrant behavior.
