Best Practice - Change a workstation from FDOTSSR MR12 Client to FDOTSS4 Workstation

Due to performance issues I want to uninstall the client from my desktop and start using a stand-alone workstation.  I did call the ECSO and was told to read installation instructions carefully, remove old files left behind, etc.  My question is: Are there any other things I need to be aware of, other than carefully following the installation manual and clearing out the C:\FDOTSS4 folder before the new install?

  • Patrick,

The process you describe above is sound and should get you where you're going.  Here are some additional ideas:

    1. Uninstall the FDOTSS4 client.

    2. Be sure you are running the .878 or .904 version of Power GEOPAK Select Series 4

    3. Delete the FDOTSS4 desktop folder and C:\FDOTSS4\ folder if they were not removed by the uninstall.

    4. Install the FDOTSS4 MR12 workstation installation. There is also a QC fix available on our download page.

    5. Restart your machine.

Some additional steps that shouldn't be necessary but might also be good to be aware of:

    1. Running Workspace Doctor with all options enabled after doing a fresh install of the FDOTSS4 software is not a bad idea. Can't hurt and might clear out leftover temp data.

    2. Right clicking on the FDOTSS4 launch icon and selecting "Run As Administrator" for the very first launch of a brand new install is also a good idea. Not necessarily critical, but if you've found that you are prone to VBA errors, this might help prevent that.

These are absolutely all the things I can think to mention. If you do run into any problems, please feel free to contact me.

    Thanks!
