Import .GPK or Modify Complex element

I have a small chain I'm working with in the .dgn file.  The chain got slightly modified and I can't undo back to the original chain.  I recently uploaded the chain to the .GPK but when I try to pull it back out of the .GPK I get an "unhandled exception error."

I have been trying to add the deleted piece of the chain back manually but can't seem to insert it where it needs to be.  Is there a better/different way to insert a curve into the middle of a chain?

  • I am having a similar issue. I'm trying to import chains into my design using the Import Geometry tool from General Geometry. One of those chains is not being imported. To work around it, I made the chain myself and stationed, imported it to my GPK but I can't find it when I use the COGO chain utility tool. Also, when I created my existing profiles, I exported them to my GPK, and again, one of them does not export.
  • Please email me the DGN that you created the alignment in that disappeared when you Exported it to the GPK, and the GPK. I'll look into it.

  • Thank you for sending me your files for review. Here's what I found:

Gabriel: The only chain I could not import was Lima street. I had to manually make the BL and station it myself, and even then, I was still having issues exporting this alignment to my GPK (job01.gpk). I also created existing ground profiles using the SS4 tool. The only one I couldn’t export was Coconut Dr.

Brad (me): It’s funny you should mention those 2 streets. From the job100.gpk file those (CoconutDrive and LimaSt) are chains for basically the same road and import on
top of each other. The results I’m getting is:

When you are Exporting LimaStreet to the GPK File, it’s being Exported as a Line, not a Chain.

To export the LimaStreet Alignment, make it a Complex Element:

Use the Create Complex Chain tool to make the LimaStreet Alignment a Complex Chain.

This will turn the Alignment into a skinny yellow line.

Use the Set Feature Definition tool to set the LimaStreet to the Baseline(BL) Feature Definition.

Set the Profile for the Alignment then Export the LimaStreet Alignment to your GPK.

It will Export to the GPK file as a Chain.
