CONNECT Standards?

Good Afternoon,

Is there any word on the status of CONNECT standards?  I recently checked back for V8i updates but didn't see anything yet for CONNECT.

I'm trying to get our users around the country up and running on all of the DOTs that have CONNECT WorkSpaces (beta or official) available.  We're currently up and running in a couple of states in full production and doing pilot projects in a few more.  I'm looking forward to getting our MDSHA users going in CONNECT as well.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Apologies for taking so long to answer. We had our Bentley Amp session in July of 2019. If you visit our current CAD Standards page Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Standards, you will see that we have upgraded our Workspace to what we call "Workspace 2.0". Our original V8 standards did not support Element Templates, ByLevel Symbologies, Sheet Models, Seed Files with Shifted Global Origins and a number of other features added to MicroStation since the 2004 edition.

And as a State Agency, it is very difficult to implement incremental changes to CAD Standards if those changes might negatively impact projects in the pipeline. We came to the conclusion that we would need a new CAD Standard with certain major changes while preserving things that we could from our original standards. We had the advantage of the InRoads Ss4 platform and early releases of Open Roads to use as a destination platform.

The final result, was Workspace 2.0, which allows users to complete current projects in the one standard while new projects can be started using the same base standards that will be continued into Open Roads. We have been migrating all of our projects that are in Project Wise to Managed Workspaces, to enforce the proper standard per project. We are also trying to encourage all offices to require all CAD work be performed in Our ProjectWise environment.

So for Open Roads, our "Beta" workspace - currently internal only, is based upon the Workspace Standard that we call SHA_V8_02. It uses an NCS compliant level naming convention, is gradually implementing ByLevel Symbologies, uses all capabilities of Drawing/Annotation Scale and is specifically intended for use in InRoads Ss4/10.

One area that still needs a lot of work in both our SHA_V8_02 standard and the Beta ORD standard is SUDA/SUE. We have most SUDA Cells created, but there are no hydraulic properties defined. Was are initiating an effort with our Highway Hydraulics Division in the near future to address this deficiency. One this occurs, we hope to begin a program with external users to assist in the Beta testing of our ORD Workspace.
