Communities site upgrade information

Over the past few months, we have posted various articles identifying that a Communities platform update is coming and what is planned to be included. We are now ready to put a lot of what has been communicated in place. Our current plan is to start the new-and-improved migration on Monday, September 29 at 4:00 PM US Eastern. During this migration, we anticipate http://communities.bentley.com/ to be unavailable -- if no unforeseen issues are encountered, this should be for no more than 12 hours (more than likely just a few).

When the site comes back online, all existing Communities content is expected to be in the same place where it exists now (note: we are looking at a community reorganization at some point in the future, but not during this platform upgrade). You will notice a different user interface, which is more intuitive and addresses various enhancement requests to the site that have been asked for.

We will be providing updates to this as we get closer to the planned cut-over time.

We apologize in advance for any temporary inconvenience this brief, scheduled outage may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding while we work towards bringing forward an improved user experience.

  • Yes, you are correct.

Unfortunately, an unforeseen problem was encountered during the migration of Bentley Communities -- basically, search was failing for no apparent reason. This had various ripple effects across the site, and we obviously were not going to reopen the site without that important aspect working.

Although work done in parallel with the migration effort was significant (enough to make reverting to what existed previously undesirable), after some discussion/consideration about how long it might take to resolve the issues encountered, it was determined that Bentley Communities should be restored to the state it was at the start of the cut-over.

We are regrouping to determine a new migration date, anticipating something in the very near future. So please stay tuned...
