Is there a recommended browser?

I'm currently using FireFox ESR (31.7.0) to view these forums and there are a number of aspects that seem rough around the edges in the way things layout, the way they draw and also in terms of performance. For instance, last night, when attempting to insert a jpeg into a post, I clicked on the add image button and just saw a white pane across my page with the above pictured text. It persisted for several seconds so I just assumed the feature was completely broken. As it turns out it's just slow to display.

I am wondering if there is a recommended browser where some of these issues might be mitigated or minimized?

Thanks.

  • I mean, what do you mean by "several seconds?" It takes a few seconds for the image to be uploaded from your computer to Bentley's server and then displayed. That's relatively normal behavior. Outside of the slow JPEG display, what other issues seem "rough around the edges?"
  • "Several seconds"... Right now it's taking about 2-3 seconds for the insert media dialog to fully open/draw. Last night it was taking more than 10 seconds (leading me to believe it was broken). i.e., sufficient time for me to assume that something was not working and close the white band on my screen. Only after waiting longer than 10 seconds would any sign of a working dialog materialize on my screen.

So, I'm not talking about the uploading phase of any selected image; I am talking about the time to actually display the Insert Media dialog. After that it seems to work fine.

As for other rough edges, just general slowness and sluggishness. For example, earlier today I was typing a reply, and decided that I wanted to use the advanced editor, so clicked the link. I think it took at least 20 seconds for the editor to open, perhaps longer.

Also when viewing a forum, a list of posts will display, I'll go to click on one, then all of a sudden the section above with "Threads with no responses" will populate, pushing everything down, so I end up clicking on the wrong thing. Seems like stuff on top of the page should load first, but this seems to be a modern issue in general. I see it all the time, not just on these forums. Pages are not designed to load smoothly (i.e., top down). Just when you think you can click on something, something above it suddenly appears and pushed everything else down.

    Cheers.
