Turn off notification still leave post as unread

At the moment, if I click the "X" symbol to turn off a notification from a post, it still leave the "new post" post status in my notification list. I have to click both the "X" and the "mark as read" symbol to get rid of the notification.

Can we make it so that turning off a post's subscription will also remove the new "new post" notification?
