I've just returned to the newsgroups after a 10 day vacation. I now have an unread notification that shows up as a number 1 in a red circle, but when clicked on, the dropdown is empty. How can I correct this?
Hello caddcop,
I assume you're referring to the notifications icon, which looks like a lightning bolt. When clicking that button, have you tried clicking "view all", or "mark all as read"?
Can you provide a screenshot?

As you can see, the menu only offers these options:
No option to mark all as read, unless I leave another message unread.

Odd. What happens when you click View All? Do you see anything there? Have you tried pressing CTRL+F5 to force a refresh of the cache, just in case the problem is that the dialog is not fully showing the information properly? Any differences when viewing on a different browser, if you have access to more than one browser? (IE vs. Chrome vs. Firefox for example)
No "Mark All as Read" anymore. And here is a "2" notifications, but as you can see, your message is the only one in the list.
I tried setting the "View All" filter to "Unread" - nothing is then in the list, no matter what I set for the other filter options.
Tried the Ctrl+F5 - no joy, either.
It's annoying, but not critical. Just thought it should be reported.
When clicking on the notifications list, try clicking the blue check mark in the upper-right corner. That is the "mark all as read" option. If that does not work, I will need to do a bit of further investigation.
Sorry, no joy. Click on the checkmark, the list clears but the number only reduces to 1
