The private message switches to different person before I can get my message typed.

There seems to be a problem with the private message system. I was trying to send a message to a new person and about 3 words into my message it switches to someone I have messaged before. I ended up having to type my message into notepad and then copy and paste it over and hit enter real fast so it would send before it switched away from the person I wanted to send it to.

  • Hello Ryan,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with private messages. I have not heard of this issue before. Are you able to reproduce this consistently? (certain member or any members?) Could you provide any additional details? For example how did you initiative the private message - by continuing an existing conversation (clicked from the left side of the PM window?), by searching for and selecting the number first, or something else?

When it switches, do you mean that the member name shown at the top suddenly changes to someone else, or that it switches to a different conversation (on the left side).

I experimented a bit with this and could not reproduce.

  • It was consistently doing it yesterday when was trying to send a message. Today when testing the issue with your name, it did the same the first 2 or 3 times and I noticed that it appears to be related to the message in the upper right corner of the forum window that says "successfully reconnected". When that flashes up it switches from the message I'm trying to type to the first name in my list of past messages.

What I had done was go to the person's profile that I wanted to send a message to and click the Connect>Send a Private Message. The private message window would come up as expected and as I was typing it would flash and it would switch to the first person in my previously sent list.

After having it failing a couple of times this morning it is currently not having the issue. I'm not sure what was causing my loss of connection to the forum. However, it seems that even if there is a momentary loss of connection it should keep what I was working on and not switch to a different message.

  • Yes still having issues this morning with it. I don't know why I keep seeing the Successfully reconnected message. My internet seems to be working fine here right now. Here's a video of what is happening.

  • Hi Ryan, I'm sorry to hear that you're still having this problem. I could not reproduce it with a test account and do not know why it is reconnecting like that. I do not see any obvious problems with your account.

Would it be possible to try this in a different web browser? (Chrome vs. Internet Explorer vs. Firefox vs. Edge?) In the meantime, I will escalate this issue for further investigation. Thanks for your patience.

  • Hello Ryan, in addition to the questions in my previous reply, could you also try utilizing this feature in a private browsing session? In Chrome, you can use the shortcut CTRL+Shift+n.

  • It seems to be an issue with Chrome. I have tried it with Internet Explorer and Firefox and they both are working as expected without losing connection. I also tried it in Chrome with a private browsing session and it exhibited the same bad behavior as a regular session.

  • Thanks Ryan, that helps. We will continue investigating (we still cannot reproduce). At this point we are looking into setting up a way for you to initiate a tracing session which could capture any exceptions/errors occurring behind the scenes while you reproduce the issue. We'll be in contact with you shortly regarding this. Thanks for your patience.
