Subscribe / Notifications of threads that you comment in

Hi,

When I comment on a forum thread, how do I get notified when other people comment back?  I have responded to several people's questions and then later discovered that they wrote back, but I never knew about it.  How do I subscribe to a thread (sort of like where I create a thread, I get notifications of when some one else replies back.)

  • Hello Robert,

If you reply to a forum thread, you should automatically be subscribed to it - to get popup messages while on the site, as well as emails. Click the "more" button below the thread's original post and see if you see "turn reply notifications off". Seeing that indicates that you are subscribed to the thread.

In your Community Settings, go to the Notifications tab and make sure the box is checked for "Replies to a thread I'm subscribed to".

We did have an email issue that was recently fixed, causing some of the email alerts to be arrive at their destination. Have you noticed this issue with any threads that you have replied to within the last couple days?

Is it possible your email client is blocking or putting the emails into the "spam" folder? Do you have any rule set up in your email client that would divert these emails?

  • Hi Jesse,

I am not being automatically subscribed to the thread when I reply to it.  I found the "more button" that you referred to and the option is "turn reply notifications on".  Yes, I have "Replies to a thread I'm subscribed to" turned on.

  • Hi Jesse,

I just did a great, "for instance"...  I have replied to Bear in https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/microstation_printing/f/printing-and-plotting-forum/176247/links-to-reference-files-are-broken

Currently in the More section of the first post, I have the option to turn the notifications on...

Also, I would expect the notification option to be somewhere related to the tread, not in the first message of the thread. That seems like it should just contain items related to the first message.

  • I am not sure why you are not being auto-subscribed to some threads. I will escalate this issue and get back to you as soon as I have a solution. Thank you for your patience.

  • Robert, preliminary investigation indicates that you will only be subscribed to a thread if you reply to the thread itself (the original post). If you reply to a reply of the original post, it does not look like you will be subscribed. I am discussing this further and will keep you updated.

  • Hi Jesse,

Thanks for your help--that appears to be my conclusion as well.  The two comments I have about the current operation are: 1) I expected to be subscribed to the forum and there was no immediately available clues that I was not.  And 2) At the top right corner of the screen is a summary of the thread.  It seems like here you should be able to see if you are subscribed (see picture below), and possibly have a button to subscribe here.  The current location is too hidden.

    --Thanks,

  • Thanks for the suggestions, I will pass this along.
