Responses disappearing while writing

Hi,

I've been in a frustrating situation a couple times in the last couple days.  Once, I was responding to a response on a thread.  During the middle of my composition, the author of the what I was responding to either deleted or edited his post.  My response (in mid composition) dissappeared without a warning.  Just now, I was in the middle of a response and I saw a strange red error box come up in the top right corner of my screen.  It did go away (I may have clicked it).  Several minutes later, I completed my response and hit OK (or post, or what ever that button says).  My response completely disappeared.  Is there any way of keeping my responses from vanishing?  Even if it can't be posted as is, I would like to be able to copy it and then paste it where it should go.

  • Hello Robert, I have not heard any other reports of this before, but I would assume that this would be a rare occurrence. How often would you say this happens to you? I am not aware of any flexibility/configuration in this area, but if we can reproduce it, it can probably be fixed in a newer version of the platform/technology that Bentley Communities is built on.

    Apologies for the inconvenience.

  • Hi Jesse,

On 3/11/19 @ 12:11pm (pacific time?) , I got an email that John Frampton responded to https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/microstation-forum/129365/ceu3-and-ceu4-display-problem-and-now-ceu6-and-still-in-ceu8-and-still-in-ceu10-and-still-u11/510555#510555  .  I was responding to that when at 12:26 pm he seems to have retracted and re-posted his response.  In that process my screen refreshed and I lost the message that I was responding to and my response (in mid-composition).  I don't know if the logs from that would help you.

Overall I have had some issues with the Bentley website (either the forum or the SR submission page) loosing my compositions.  I've had cases where I got interrupted and the page timed out.  I've had other cases where I got totally done, and hit Submit, just to find the next screen missing everything that I wrote.  (I'm a relatively slow writer--I have to think a lot about how to word things--so this becomes dis-heartening.)

Unfortunately I don't have an exact frequency.  It's not enough to be called "frequent", but it is enough to be almost expected.

    --Thanks again for your help,

  • Hi Robert, I'm sorry to hear about that. I can understand how frustrating it would be to put time into writing something, only to have it lost. I believe I may have seen this on occasion long ago but I post frequently on our OpenFlows forum, and do not recall experiencing this issue in years.

Thanks for the information about the post example and time, I will escalate this to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

  • Robert, as a follow-up to the issue of forum posts being lost - I confirmed that there are no particular improvements in progress in this area.  Almost all body content is stored as part of session data. When the session is severed either through physical disconnect or some other issue that information is subject to being lost.

Future safeguards will be looked into, to help prevent this (such as creating a system to allow draft posts.)
