In recent days (mid-October 2019) I've noticed new posts appearing in Forums that aren't hilighted. That's different from past behaviour where the title of a new post is embolded to make it easy to spot.
Paradoxically, I notice that a previous misbehaviour remains: a post that I have recently written is embolded. But, I don't really need a signal telling me that I've just contributed to the Forum.

I agree: it's an obscure problem. Why do some threads show highlighted when new or updated, yet others are not highlighted?

My best guess is that, for the cases where the thread is not highlighted yet you did not read it, the system thinks that you did read the latest reply. Hence my comment about how maybe an in-browser alert could have done this. I am not certain if this is the case, just a possibility that comes to mind. What I mean is that, if you have the setting set to do so, you will receive a pop-up alert in your web browser if you are signed in and looking at Bentley Communities while the new post comes in. Perhaps the viewing of that popup (maybe not necessarily clicking on it) may cause the thread to be flagged as read?
