calistrat: 2 - eliminate the need for tags, or just automatically tag for us
The essence of tags is that you apply them with careful consideration. They are intended as an escape from stupid automatisms. Automatic tagging will at best provide statistical guesses about the essence of the document, which can be far away from making sense. For example the most important key words for tags might not even be mentioned.
Thoughtful tagging therefore should be part of web 2.0 etiquette.
calistrat: 4 - eliminate the need for the copy/paste pop-up window
I assume this is a non Internet-Explorer problem. As an enthusiastic Firefox user I know the problem and whish for something better not only for this forum but for all Bentley websites. It is an offence to bar us non IE users out.
calistrat: 6 - improved search capability (based on thread or subject or date, etc.)
This is essential. It is a shame that the forums search can not even produce search results for threads you know they exist and therefore are capable to enter appropriate key words for search.
Meanwhiles I therefore use Google instead. See the following thread for details: http://communities.bentley.com/administrators/general/f/9549/t/20817.aspx
calistrat: 14 - get rid of all the white space
It is a basic of graphics design that information becomes legible and valuable by the white space surrounding it. It is a horror that only few people seem to know this elementary truth and are capable of structuring their text accordingly.
I accept your claim for unnessesary white space at the end of posts.
calistrat: 20 - add section showing "similar threads" with hyperlinks
This comes to the point of integrating a controlled vocabulary and thesaurus for tags. Both indespensable foundations for successful search.
