After I was searching to find my forums (still one missing) I was even searching for the search function.
I found a notice in the help that it should be right top in each forum, but couldn't see anything.
A while later I found the lightgray icon but still missed the input box, unless I clicked in the absolutely white area left this icon.
Who designed such a crapy thing ? white input box on white background ?
A joke here says that the standard of a small country is shown a white eagle on a white flag. This is likely to be the same.

We are using some defaults in the user interface, and have made some changes in other areas, which might impact the defaults for other items. I am not following the specific location you mention... are you referring to the actual search field on every Be Communities page? If so, I think I understand what you mean... that is something we can put in the hopper to look for alternative options.
this is, how it looks like in my firefox. If you could tell me, where in this picture the input field for the the search starts, you must be wizard ;-)
not easy to find, isn't it :)
Michael
The field does have slightly more contrast (with a shadow effect) in IE7 than you are seeing in FF.

edit [ I take that back, now that I added my screen capture, yours looks the same. It could use a little more contrast though! ]
Okay, now I understand. We will look at making the "outline" more prominent (without going to the other side of the spectrum and making it obnoxious :)
