This may be a bit premature (and not taking into account bugs) but so far as one in a sea of users, I like the new forums. Though a little bit hard to find at first, the new layout and wealth of user perferences is great.
A couple of suggestions:
That's all, so far so good.

One of the reasons why we wanted to get this out in the open is to get feedback, so we welcome the input. Another reason was to put a load on the site to see what can be done to balance it in our server farm (that is ongoing and I suspect will continue).
That said, the new site is quite a bit different (that is so much an understatement :). There are some things that work similarly to what they did, and others that changed. So, could you identify some specifics regarding "new format is very tedious to find information on"?

I don't see any thing like Add forum. I can only add groups and forum threads (posts), not adding a complete forum.
I'm using Firefox if that is relevant information.

Hmmm... do you see an "Add Group to Favorites" link in the upper right of the Forum page? (above the "Get this RSS feed" link)
It was just much easier to navigate to the information with the previous format. Like Daniel said earlier now we have to go into each individual area to find new posts. I much prefer the general forum area where everything is together.
There are also a lot more clicks to get to each individual forum. First I have to find what topic area I'm interested in and when I click that it takes me to a general "Home" page then I have to click on the forum tab to see the post. It's just a lot more tedious than the previous version and I see myself having a hard time finding things or getting frustrated and giving up because it takes to long to search for the information I want.
I am also not a big fan of the pull down bar at the top. It is annoying when the menus pop down in the way inadvertently every time my mouse happens to cross over the bar.

Yes, it's there. As the link further down when I'm in a thread that says something similar and will add that specifc thread to my favorites.
