Bear,
I think I know exactly what you mean - I always want to know who I am talking to. If I don't know who the person is, I routinely click into their avatar to see whatever profile information is there, so I feel better introduced to the person I am talking to.
Works quite well actually and .... once I know who you are, I wouldn't want everyone of your posts cluttered with your info - and if my over 40 brain forgets, I can always click on the Avatar again!
Sorry for not being clear. What I mean is having some user info under the avatar in posts. It means you don't have to go searching in a profile to find out basic info. See the pic attached from a web site I run.
That would work well... for those whose member names consist of four letters :)
As mentioned, there is still work to be done on the layout and what is displayed... so ideas are more than welcome.

Thex1138:Perhaps an action on the Avatar hover could pop-up the users brief info + a line saying click to view user profile as it does right now..
Sounds like a good idea.
.... hmm also perhaps when members are traversing other profiles there can also be an indication of whether the user you're looking at is online in addition to seeing their names highlighted next to their community posts...
For example their Avatar image can be highlighted or the image frame line can change colour and be a thicker blue line and greyed when they're offline... ?
Sometimes some avatars have a red X through them. Others have a little yellow star twinkling in the upper corner. I allways believed it had something to do with the online status, but could not figure out what it ment. Help does not cover all possibilities.
