New Communities Feedback

Phil it would be really useful if someone like yourself would create a walk thru video of the new BeCommunities site. I would imagine that most people look at the forums and possibly the news and that's all. An introduction on ways to more fully use BeCommunities would be of value. I also think some explanations on tagging, bookmarking, following, RSS, Digests, Group, etc. would also be useful. For example what is the difference between bookmarking a community or having a group list?

One issue that still seems to persist is the ordering of posts. Some posts have the newest on the bottom others have the newest on the top and some even appear to have new posts in the middle. It would be nice, if not already available, to sort the posts the way you want.

It might be a good idea to add reputation points for those that enter a biography as a part of their profile, though I'm guilty of being one of those people that hasn't done so, I do find value in knowing the position and experience of those answering questions.

I'll end with a positive, I think the new filtering on searches is a fantastic addition. Anything that streamlines the finding of what we are looking for adds significant value.

  • Thanks for the feedback:

    1. Create a video... something that we are in the process of doing for the basics. Those should be online around mid-January. Note that there is a Getting Started article... maybe there could be some additional things added there (will certainly consider that...)

    2. Ordering of posts... Question and Answer format will always put the first post first and Verified Answers after that, then the rest of the thread in (currently) ascending order. The option of changing that order to descending is something being discussed.

    3. Points for biography... yes, something we looked into. There isn't a good way of doing that now, but it is something that we will continue to consider.

    4. Filtering on searches... yes, that is pretty awesome and does add value. As is the inclusion of tags in the results.
