To assist in our efforts to provide premium-level support to users of our products through Bentley Communities, we have put in place an efficient and secure way for you to provide Bentley files that will help solve issues you are having. The steps to do this are as follows:
1. You need to identify the Forum thread URL:
This helps coordinate the file(s) being provided with the forum topic and member they relate to.
2. Then open this link, which is identified in various areas on Communities. The following renders in a Web browser.
Enter your email address, first and last name, company or organization you are with, and then the "Forum thread URL" saved from previously. Then select files from your computer or network to upload (maximum of 2GB in size) and click on "Upload File(s)". There is an activity indicator identifying that the upload is taking place. Once complete, an informational message indicates if the upload is successful or not.
IMPORTANT: If the upload is successful, you should confirm you have uploaded the file(s) (and note the file name(s)) in the "Forum thread URL" forum thread. Note that the file(s) you upload will ONLY be accessible to Bentley colleagues -- they will NOT appear in the Communities forum thread.
3. Bentley Support analysts can then access the file(s) to continue their investigation.
Additional notes:
1. Files uploaded to this area are set to expire 7 days after they are uploaded.
2. Files that have the same name can be safely uploaded to this area -- the system automatically adds a (#) to the file name when it is the same as a file that was previously uploaded and is still in the folder.
Where can we download the files uploaded by users in the Forum?
We recently updated this ability -- if you could try again and let us know your results, we would be most appreciative.
Hmmm... that is something we need to look into (along with the process overall). Stay tuned...
Sorry, why is it giving me this error when I try to upload a file:
ERROR: upload.aspx: ID='c0ec3daece374203' Upload Acknowledgement is null!
Thanks!
Yes, the link is correct... some browsers, browser versions, and security settings may require you to "download" that file to open it.
Is the link correct? It tries to download HTML file.
It is not entirely clear what you mean. The purpose of a "Secure File Upload" is to provide a VERY easy way to limit who has access to data associated with an issue that is MUCH simpler than FTP and allows users who do not have access to FTP a way to provide information. If you attach a file to a post or upload it to a file/media gallery on Be Communities, then everyone who has access to that area on Be Communities can access it. Both methods can be used within the context they exist for. We have no plans to change that.
By using this "Be Communities Secure File Upload" , only sender and bentley expert can view the attachment, is it correct ? ,
Can any third person view the attached files, for eg. sometimes it require to send export package also , then after uploading here , can it view by any third person other than me and Bentley expert person?
No more discussion from me!
BTW, should you feel the need to continue discussion regarding this topic, please do so in this thread... communities.bentley.com/.../85396.aspx
To those who are set on using FTP, the immediate benefits that this alternative provides are not likely to be understood. However, as explained in the article, this "new method" of providing files to us in support of an issue reported on Be Communities makes it possible to do so without the impediments that exist with FTP.
Nothing quicker than drag and drop!!!
This is an alternative to FTP. Both can be used, but it has been our observation that this "new" process is much better (and easier) than the FTP approach. Plus, we are finding more and more organizations who do not allow FTP access.
Is this to be used instead of the ftp site or can bothe be sued?
