Lesson Learned: The "Five Moments of Need"

Take a moment and think about the last time you learned something. Why did you learn?  What need did you have? How did you learn?

Noted learning pioneer Conrad Gottfredson identified what he called the "Five Moments of Need" that "provide a framework for helping learners become and remain competent in their individual and collective work". These "five moments" are:

New: When people are learning how to do something for the first time

More: When people are expanding the breadth and depth of what they have learned

Apply: When they need to act upon what they have learned, which includes planning what they will do, remembering what they may have forgotten, or adapting their performance to a unique situation

Solve: When problems arise, or things break or don’t work the way they were intended

Change: When people need to learn a new way of doing something, which requires them to change skills that are deeply ingrained in their performance practices

Bentley understands the diverse learning needs of its users and offers a variety of learning solutions to help you meet your individual needs - ultimately enhancing your performance.   Beginning this week we will highlight a small selection of our on-demand and live learning courses across product categories and communities.  The courses selected represent learning needs that span these "five moments" to help you learn what you need...where you are... when you need it.

Check out Bentley Product Communities > News and look for the Featured LEARN Course to see what's highlighted each week.  If you don't see a course in your Product Community, let us know your need and we'll look to feature content in future weeks.

In closing, I'd love to hear about your "learning moments of need" and how Bentley has helped you or how you are helping others.  Share your story.
