Removing unused active levels from the Level Manager

“BB_DVLEVELSDISABLE” = 1

The automatic download of hundreds of irrelevant levels from a dgnlib is so frustrating.

The property dialog does not indicate where to track them either.

I tried making a new NonfigVar as suggested, but…Great if it could work also on v8i_AECOsim.

Any work around?

All of a sudden - NO SHOW

Checked all levels on, view attributes dimension on, fit view checking scale….

Any idea?

DWG import in 3D

I rarely get involved with Autocad but sometimes it’s the only option if you need to insert a certain industry product, like a roof tile. The one I got now looks like it’s on a flat paper drawing. Is there any Microstation switch I have missed in the process? How can you check if a DWG is in 3D?

Having resolved the problem with missing Saved View dialog by the “-restordefaults” expansion I lost the printer routines. Before the Adobe Reader pdf-print dialog showed up automatically, very efficiently.

Now, I cannot even find the pdf file produced by Microstation. I edited the MS_PLTFILES config to the wanted output directory, closed and restarted,….but no effect.

Is there another step I missed?

Frozen text on sheet model

On a sheet model without reference files, the texts, lines, dimensions and most graphics (not all!) placed directly on the sheet are all of a sudden frozen. No way to copy or delete.

How is this possible?

Saved View not functioning

Display style “Illustration with shadows” does not show up on sheet model.

Dialog set at synch view only, use view flags, update from saved view.

Pity as shadows make architectural façade drawings much more live.

Any trick around?

Church organ pedals for CAD

Right now, in an intense phase of production I wonder, since many years BTW, why we don’t use foot pedals like with the old church organ? Imagine you step Left to get ”Element select” and R to get “Undo (Ctrl+Z)”. These, or maybe others, are some of the most used commands, for me at least. Actually, you can expand with several pedals like in the church; impressive to see when they do a JS Bach fugue. In CAD though, over and over again you have to go up and to the tool bar… The productivity upgrade with church organ pedals should be awesome.

Has anyone already invented this gadget? If so, please….

Tool Setting Dialog unpredictable behavior

Quite often the dialog doesn’t show up at all. I have to go for Settings/Tool settings to get the dialog, e.g. for “Change element attributes” where it’s really needed. Then, if it does come out, the dialog occupies a quarter of the screen, hiding views! Another annoying issue.

I´m sure there are switches to get around this, but I simply can´t find out… /Ingemar

Perspective behavior without control

After having been a straight forward command with direct feed-back on mouse dragging, something has happened to the settings. Camera is on in view setup but the whole model “disappears” into a distant spot. Zooming in several times takes the model back to previous look but there is no perspective alteration as wanted. Is it something about the 1-, 2- or 3-point perspective? Ingemar

Turning lines into Bamboo Solids?

Is there a trick to use lines for making solids or surfaces? Thickening, extruding or so?

I have a network of lines in a Space Frame structure. Now I want to render them and make the lines look like bamboo poles. I have managed to make a Custom Line style mimicking Bamboo with its typical varying width/diameter , but the volume does not show up in Illustration Display Style - because it’s nothing but a line…

In Rhino/Grasshopper you can give a diameter to a line, using the Pipe command.

In Microstation there are maybe hidden work-arounds for this?

Convert Smart Surface / B-spline to a Solid?

I have managed to get a nice-looking helix to represent a threaded bolt. It’s identified as a smart surface from a B-spline. Now I want to merge this with the bolt rod and the hexagon head, both solids. Of course, “Unite solids” does not accept the helix, so I need to convert the helix to a solid first,

Is there a special command to achieve this? /Ingemar
