[Connect U11] High CPU load due to CONNECT Licensing

After upgrading to MicroStation Connect Edition Update 11 with the new CONNECT Licensing i have constant high CPU load.
It consumes more than 30 percent of the CPU power with doing "nothing", or permanently verifying?
Please fix that.

Im trying to use the various Thematic display styles in ORD 2020 r2,

But independent of which stlye i chose i get an output like that

every tri is showing the full range of colors with the first and last 25% being grey.

what am i missing?

Exchanging Navisworks File Types

Hello,

I'm trying to convert a Navisworks file to a format that can be imported into a Bentley product, but I'm having trouble with file size. The NWD file is 148 MB, and the exported FBX file is 1.7 GB, which is too large to be manageable.

I have access to several software packages including Autodesk, Trimble, and Bentley, but I don't have access to tools like 3D Object Converter, AnyCAD Exchange3D, or Okino PolyTrans.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can successfully convert the Navisworks file to a format that can be imported into Bentley, or for ways to reduce the file size of the FBX export? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

ORD CE 2021 R2 - Cross Sections - Grid Annotation & Annotation Units Trouble Shooting & Feature Requests

Hello,

I am looking for some specific help with a cross section grid annotation issue that my coworker and I are experiencing. We have both recently transitioned from V8i to ORD CE 2021 R2 and have been scouring the forum (and google) for specific information on cross sections and annotation. We have explored this helpful link: Cross Section Point Annotation Troubleshooting and watched all the youtube videos on ORD cross sections (I have some feature requests at the bottom - if anyone reads this post an knows how to execute the desired outcome in ORD CE please let me know)

- TLDR of the issues: The cross section grid is annotating itself above the minimum elevation of the data contained within the 3d- model and the units (and width / height) of the grid annotation is ~3x larger than it should be (along with the named boundary size being 3x large than specified)

(1) The "Cross Section Grid Annotation" issue:

- My coworker and I are on two separate projects but both are in imperial units. We're working from an ORD projectwise environment whose job is also in imperial units (TxDot based if matters). Our previous project was metric, so both of our guesses is that we're self inflicting the "id10t" error since no one else on the internet seems to have this issue.

- I experience this issue when cutting sections from a txdot seed file without using any corridors; my co-working has tried the generic bentley seed file using corridors and also experiences this issue.

- I don't know if there is anything else i can add other than the civil labelling tool is also recognizing the elevation of the terrain differently from the 3d model as if it was in metres

(2) - We have checked the design file settings (linear units showing feet, slightly confused at why the advanced settings have meters)

- The best part of making this post is that i changed the advanced settings to read feet and doing that resolved the horizontal grid spacing not matching the dimensions (but the vertical spacing is still wrong)

However the elevations are still being scaled incorrectly. You'll notice that the civil labeller is showing an elevation of "6599.56'" below the bottom grid axis which is showing 6530 feet.

(3) The next issue is that the named boundary was set to +/- "30" in the setting and the named boundary that was output is measuring 98.452 on either site; meaning it converted from metres to feet.

* But wait! The grid annotation has taken that 98.452 named boundary offset and put the grid at a -300 offset (which is confusing because 98.452 m = 323 feet)

- Lastly, the correct elevation for this section should be in the 2150 to 2175 range which is being recognized correctly in the 2d and 3d views

We have also checked the models units and set them to feet

Any help on the units would be appreciated issue would be appreciated, I suspect there is something silly that we're both missing - we're just exhausted trying to find it.

Lastly, regarding some features of ORD CE;

- Is there a replacement tool for automatically labelling the depth? In V8i I had ~ 100 km of pipe depths to label from invert to a surface. I created a section label that would provide a nicely formatted depth label between two known features. Is there a way to utilize the civil labeller in this fashion? For example, reading the elevation of a profile and measuring the distance to another feature? In my case I had two alignments, one at the top of pipe and one draped over the surface. I just read the 2022 release notes, and it sounds like maybe this is a new feature

- Given that named boundaries have completely changed the section tools, is there a new way to incorporate sections that have deflections? I know they can be rotated for skewed sections and such, but is there a way? could this be logged as a feature request? This was one of the most powerful parts of sections from V8i in my opinion (being able to cut a single section over a large drainage network to understand interactions with other parts of the model)

Turning Off Levels in Cross Sections - Saved View - Active View

Fairly new to ORD, coming from MicroStation V8i.

I have generated cross sections using the named boundary tool. There are certain levels on from a survey file that show up in my cross sections (existing fence, existing bridge, home concrete foundation). I cannot turn off those levels; they appear on my cross sections as a section-cut graphic. In the level manager, hovering over any level says "Level State is controlled by Saved View. Level is ON in Active View."

Where do I go to turn off these levels? How do I access "Active View"?

What is going on with the Connection Client? Is there a conflict with a recent Windows10 update or what?

We have been facing major problems with Connection Client recently. The client application won't start properly. It will launch up to 50 instances and reserves 100% of the CPU resources.

Furthermore, Microstation, which is our main design tool does not work either because Connection Client doesn't allow it to launch. This problem has occured in five workstations so far. We have 20 workstations running Microstation and this kind of faulty program will cause some serious trouble if it will hang all workstations...

Removing and re-installing Connection Client & Bentley apps didn't help. I managed to get one computer up and running by re-installing the Win 10 OS and all applications but it would be a total nightmare to re-install every single computer.

Is there some solution for fixing the problem?

[V8i] / Inroads SS10 - Frequent Crashing after opening (Cross post from Open Roads Forum)

I recently switched to a newer laptop and am looking for some help to resolve a frequent crashing issue I have. I posted a few days ago in the open roads forum and am thinking it is probably more of a v8i problem.

The crash is reproducible in any file with multiple commands;

two examples of basic commands are
- place dimension, snap to any object, crash)
- Or Measure distance (9-1) - Snap to point 1, crash.
Any file I open I can reproduce the problem
coworkers do not experience any of these problems and neither did I prior to switching laptops

I tried deleting my .upf file to generate a new one and it seems to let me execute a few commands normally before crashing again.

After that failed, i uninstalled and re-installed. Unfortunately the same issues were still present.

EDIT: Adding new symptoms to describe the issue:

- Prior to executing commands that crash i noticed that the settings / "toolbox" ? window won't populate and allow me to adjust the command (e.g. change text attributes from 3 mm to 5 mm)

- I also posted some of the log files in a reply below this message

FILLING Multiple Shapes at once

I have received a file with thousands of closed shapes. I need to change their fill types as I need their fill to have a colour. Currently they are all not filled. Any ideas of how to do this in bulk instead of clicking on one at a time please?

A New Default-3D model is generated with civil geometry or corridor model change.

We have a few users where a new Default-3D model is generated with civil geometry or corridor model changes in the same session. On some machines a 3D model is generated and in other machines, the automatically generated Default-3D of a reference is reattached. This will sometimes lead to a file having a hundred of the same reference and/or a hundred Default-3D's.

All seed files came from the same seed on all files.

A reinstall will sometimes fix the issue with a complete cleanup/removal, but it's not guaranteed fix.

We're currently running 08.11.09.845 Geopak SS4 with Microstation 08.11.09.714. We also dual installed Geopak SS2 08.11.07.615 or 619 on some of these machines if that helps.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Inroads SS4 cross section elevation limits

I am trying to create "sheet" cross sections in SS4. I have a reference file with 3D pipes that I want to show up in the cross sections. For some reason I can only create "stacked" sections when this file is referenced, and it gives me a lower elevation of -8600 ft, and an upper elevation of 8590 ft. I have checked the reference file and I can't find anything near those elevations that it should pick up. I don't see any way to set high and low elevation limits in the create cross section dialog box (like there is in the "controls" options in the create profile dialog). Is there a different way to do this?

Multiple References Automatically Attached to Current

I am working with a large corridor file with many references attached as default and default-3D models. Any action in the file takes a very long time with the program freezing up and the message center listing most of the reference files. Ex: "3D Model [*reference file name] AutomaticallyAttachedToCurrent". It seems like the program reloads each reference file with any action taken, even just to switch views or opening the project explorer. I have deactivated corridor processing and it still does this. I have also noticed that these listed reference files duplicate in the 3D references manager every time, creating hundreds of the same default-3D file thus slowing down the corridor file. Is there a way to disable the 'automatic attach to current' setting? Or did I do something wrong attaching the references? Note that not all reference files have this issue. Or is there a problem with the reference file itself?
