I have worked at the Kansas Department of Transportation since 1984 starting out traveling the state as an engineering technician collecting traffic counts. Worked the field for 6 years collecting traffic count, speed, vehicle classification and rural inventory data before transferring into a Road design squad.
There is was creating Roadway design plans where i was introduced to CADD via Intergraph's InterActs and InterPro workstations. I was also introduced to a newly acquired civil design software (we were their 3rd customer) called GEOPAK. After becoming an advanced user of MicroStation, GEOPAK and Unix, I was offered a new position as a CADD support technician supporting MicroStation, IPLOT, GEOPAK, and Intergraph's Clipper Unix workstations and servers. We were also running Inroad's Survey and Intergraph's photogrammetry workstations running on a VAX.
Eventually KDOT made the transition from Unix to PC-DOS to Window NT 3.51 with files being stored on Windows servers still running MicroStation, GEOPAK and IPLOT with InRoads survey transitioning over to GEOPAK survey and the photogrammetry workstations moving over to Intergraph's ImageStations, This also included the use of their high resolution image scanner and ImageStation photogrammetry software.
And then came ProjectWise. Worked with a 3rd party vendor and Bentley to pilot and implement ProjectWise at KDOT. This also added the Main ProjectWise administrator duties onto my current responsibilities. We also brought on the CADconform the CADD conformance software from Altivasoft implementing and supporting it as well after making the transition to the MicroStation V8 file format and standards.
Recently I was the project manager for the recently created and implemented low distortion projection coordinate system for Kansas.
Now moving and moved into the realm of 3D models and 64 bit with OpenRoads, OpenRoads Designer, Context Capture, gINT civil tools, OpenRoads Concept Station, LumenRT, Open Bridge Modeler now becoming OpenBridge Designer and OpenRoads Navigator,
Also moving into Bentley hosted ProjectWise and Connect Services.
