I am attempting to reference in a file which includes contour lines. When I reference it in, the contour labels DO NOT scale according to the drawing scale of the file into which it is referenced. All other references scale correctly (including other annotation text in the file with the contour labels). If I open the file with the contour labels in it and adjust the drawing scale there, the contour labels DO change according to the drawing scale.

The issue I am having appears to be the same as the issue experienced by this individual (to which no solution was provided):

https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/f/geopak-inroads-mx-openroads-forum/167534/annotation-of-terrain-contour-text-when-referenced---ord

If anyone could help me with this, I would appreciate it!

ORD level display and saving settings issues

Hello everyone. I have been working on my first project in OpenRoads Designer. Despite a few bugs, I have been making good progress. However, I have encountered a new problem for which I have been unable to find a solution. Beginning a few days ago, I have had the following issues appear:

1. I have been unable to get my level settings to save when closing files. I have "save settings" turned on, and I manually save the settings out of habit. Despite this, whenever I reopen a file, the levels on/off are consistently reset to a set of levels I do not want.

2. I have been unable to get my referenced in contour lines to display in some of my files, despite appearing to be turned on in the Level Display toolbox.

The only unusual thing which occurred during that time is that another person at my company opened and edited some of these files in an older program. I believed they used OpenRoads (not OpenRoads Designer). However, this issue appears to extend to files which they did not open or edit, so I am doubtful this is the cause. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

ORD How to Show Culvert, Utilities, Etc. Crossing Beneath an Alignment?

Hello all. I was recently given a new assignment that no one at my company has had to do before, and I am having trouble figuring out if ORD has an automated way of doing this, or if it has to be done manually.

For this current project, I have an alignment with an existing ground line. A 36" corrugated metal pipe culvert crosses underneath the alignment approximately (but not exactly) perpendicular to it. I have been tasked with figuring out how to make a profile in ORD that shows the existing ground line and the culvert running beneath it.

As this is a simple culvert (I know the size of the culvert, I know that it is straight, and I have the surveyed locations and invert elevations of the inlet and outlet of the culvert), it seems that this would be trivial to draw manually in the profile. However, in the event that future projects require more complex culverts (or other utilities) to be shown crossing underneath an alignment, I would like to know if there is an automated way of doing this, and if so, how? I am largely self-taught with ORD, and this is outside the scope of what I normally have to do with it, so if there is an automated way to do this, a clear, step-by-step explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help!

ORD File Version Issue

Hello everyone. I am having an issue with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and would like to ask for help/advice here.

I am currently working on a project using a slightly older version of ORD. I created plan view and profile view sheets as I usually do, using the Named Boundary to create it. Immediately after creating the sheets, I tried opening them, but for all of them, I get the following message:

"The data in this file is from a newer version of a Civil Product:
OpenRoads Designer Update 9 (10.09.00.91)

This file cannot be edited with:
OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition 2020 Release 3 (10.09.00.91)

Press OK to view the file ReadOnly.
Press Cancel to close without opening the file."

This didn't make sense to me, as I had just created the sheets myself, so I didn't understand how I could have used a newer version of ORD to create the sheets. Additionally, the software version numbers given in the message were identical (though the specific name was different).

I decided to try an experiment. I created another plan view sheet (using a different alignment from a different reference), and set it to "Open Model". It created and automatically opened the sheet file, so I drew a line in the sheet, then saved it. I attempted to reopen the file, but I got the same message as before. I opened it as Read Only, and when it opened, I found that the line I had drawn was still in the sheet. So it seems that if I set it to open the sheet automatically after generating it, I can edit the sheet file. But if I close it and attempt to reopen it, it no longer works.

I can update the file version then edit the file using a newer version of ORD (10.10, I believe), but we have been instructed not to do this for compatibility reasons.

Additionally, in case it matters, we are using ProjectWise for this project.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening to the sheets I create? And does anyone have a solution to this issue?

If more information is needed, please let me know.

Ask A Question I

Ask a question in a forum.
