How To Fix Bowties in OpenRoads Designer Connect Edition

Hi,

Does anyone know a quick solution to fix the Bowtie Error that happens around tight corners of a corridor? (image below)

- I know you can delete all the vertices, but it just goes back and re-draws if any edits are done to the corridor.

-I know you use a clipping reference to clip out the bowtie, and then generate new lines manually but that is very tedious.

Looks like Civil 3D solved this in 2018 so surely ORD 2021 must have a solution no?? Civil 3D 2018 New Feature: Clear Corridor Bowties - YouTube

Cross Section Annotation Filter

I've search high and low and am not able to find any documentation on "Annotation Filters" and how the "expressions" work.

There's nothing in OpenRail Designer Help Website about Annotation Filters or Cross Section Frame Annotation.

Does anybody have a link to a Wiki or Video that goes through either the Annotation Filters/Expressions and/or Frame Annotation Settings?

RailTrack V8i SS2 had a very simple and straight forward Dialog for setting up Frame Annotation (no filters/expressions necessary) and It's been replaced by this code heavy dialog with no supporting documentation.

(Below are example of what was available in BRT SS2)

Telling our clients that we're just not able to annotate cross sections any more is NOT AN OPTION. Change is fine, but change without documentation or available training is just ridiculous.

With a software able to automate a plethora of things and do 3D design so efficiently you'd think it wouldn't regress on the Plans Production aspect. I'll save my collision free leader lines and cross section range lack of options for another time.

Using Fields and File Links to Display Sheet Number References?

This is something that I thought I'd have the ability to do in ORD CONNECT but never got confirmation and now I can't seem to find good examples of anyone doing what I'm trying to do, so I'm not sure it is possible.

I am using the sheet index tool, and am trying to use text fields to display a sheet number for a sheet that is not the current model. I've tried to use the sheet index to link the sheet number I want to the text element, but after cycling through all the fields, I can't seem to find any that allow me to display properties of the linked model.

In short, I'd like a text to say "See Sh. No. 44" but have the 44 be dynamically updated and linked to a sheet model's position in the sheet index.

Is this something that is currently possible? Currently on 2020 R3.

Rotating View of Plan and Profile

Hello,

I created a plan and profile sheet, however I would like the plan view to be rotated 180 degrees. If I have the plan view rotated in turn I would need the Profile to display from right to left instead of left to right currently. Other than changing the direction of the station to the other direction is there a way to generate a Plan and Profile sheet to display in the opposite direction?

In OpenRoads Designer, is there a setting to allow labels to be placed relative to the current view? Similar to how dimensions and notes have always worked in Microstation.

I am trying to place a label (station, offset) in a design model with the view rotated parallel to the alignment.

I was able to get something to download yesterday, but now I can't re-download in the same location.

Is there a current issue with the GeoCoordination Services?

How to stop annotation text from updating?

I am using OpenRoads Designer Connect edition and am attempting to create some plan-profile sheets. I used the named boundary tool to create plan and profile drawing models and then utilized "model annotation" to annotate the alignment and profile, however I then need to drag some labels around to remove conflict as well as edit some of the labels to remove part of the label that the client does not want on the sheets. It seems pretty random but the annotations will reset to the original position and contain all of the original information (undo my deletions). How can I stop this from happening?

I have tried setting the update fields automatically to false, however this caused my stationing on the alignment to start at 0+00, instead of the 50+00 that it is set to, and did not always keep it from happening.

I also tried dropping the cells several times so as to loose the smart features they contain, however several of the multi line annotations break down into unusable pieces.

Please help as this is incredibly frustrating.

[ORD 2021 R1] Print Organizer doesn't output certain sheets

I used a WorkSet sheet index to create a Print Organizer pset. All of the desired sheets appear in the sheet index and in the print organizer pset and they preview OK. Not all of the sheet files get printed to the pdf. Stranger still, if I open the same pset in MicroStation CE it prints all of the sheets. What's going on? MicroStation support won't help me because it works in MS. ORD support hasn't responded in a week or two, so I've gotten nowhere. Has anyone else experienced this?

How to Update Plan and Profile Drawings Once the Alignment Has Changed (second attempt)

I posted this question some time ago (https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/f/geopak-inroads-mx-openroads-forum/187923/how-to-update-plan-and-profile-drawings-when-alignment-changed?ReplySortBy=CreatedDate&ReplySortOrder=Ascending) but have not had an answer that fully resolves the issue.

Bentley's website states that drawing production is automated and as 'the design changes, so will the sheets. Make edits directly in the design model and the application will update the sheets.' However, I'm struggling to work out how to update a series of plan and profile drawings if the horizontal alignment has changed. Neither the named boundaries or the profile annotation update automatically and it appears that you have to go through a process of deleting the boundaries and associated models, though I'm having problems even doing that.

There is clearly a need for drawings to be updated or, at the very least, for warnings to be displayed highlighting that the data that is presented in them is out of date, which may not be obvious if the alignment changes are small. This process should be automatic and Bentley's website suggests that it is.

Please can a Bentley representative explain how this should be done. I have searched for Bentley guidance, but have found none so far.

create cut and fill volumes won't give me a volume

I have 2 terrain models I am trying to use the "create cut and fill volumes" tool on. The tool creates an element, but I can not get the volume from it. When I try and measure it, it says "cannot measure volume of this element" I have attached the file with the 2 terrain models. Can someone let me know why this doesn't work and if there is a way to fix it?

Civil Labeler: Label leader not moving with text when attempting to move?

Hey Everyone!

I am experiencing an issue with labels placed with the 'Civil Labeler' tool. When adjusting the placement of the label the leader doesn't move with the text, as shown below. I also noticed that the annotation circle at the end of the leader, used to update the civil annotation text, turns from a solid line to dashed which is connected to why the leader doesn't move with the text. The confusing thing is when further analyzing the issue, is that although there looks to be something with the label being disassociated I can move the annotation circle to another location of the alignment and the station updates in the text. Has anyone else been experiencing something similar and/or knows how to fix this?

Sheet Numbers Not Updating

It sounds like it has been a known issue that in order to update sheet numbers on a sheet model that are controlled by the sheet index tool, you have to go into each sheet model manually for them to update. I did find a post HERE which proposed a solution that a few people seemed to indicate worked well. However, we have not had any success with this solution and I didn't get a response in that thread so I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot this issue here. We noticed some strange things when testing, such as the pset generated by the sheet index tool not running if one of the dgns containing sheet models opened to a design model. When we went into that dgn, went to a sheet model, did a save settings, got out of that file and tried generating the pset from sheet index to print, it ran fine but did not update the sheet numbers.

Adding and/or moving Profile Named Boundaries

Why is the profile workflow so difficult!

I would like to know how to add profile boundaries to accommodate tall profiles to "Stair-step" the profile view on sheets. I know ORD can help with that when placing Named Boundaries for Profile views, but that only takes the active profile into account when deciding how to split and offset a sheet's profile boundaries. I can modify a profile Named Boundary's elevation prior to drawing/sheet model creation, but I also would like the ability to change the horizontal size and location. Is it possible to add or modify boundaries after the fact?

The image attached shows the original Named Boundaries in grey. I would like to modify the first one and add a second one to look like the yellow shapes. The cyan lines represents the limits of one particular plan/profile sheet. The original boundaries were created to align with a group of plan view Named Boundaries.

I assume I can still manually accomplish this by careful use of reference files, but it would seem like something I should be able to do at the time of Named Boundary placement so that I don't have to manually do it. Better yet - let me insert a named boundary later if I need to show more relief. If necessary my workaround is to make one large drawing model of the entire profile and manually reference it (multiple attachments) into each sheet's profile drawing model to achieve the stair-stepping I would like.

"Print Style" is always looking for a Fence "Print Area".

Hi,

My organization is having trouble with "Print Styles". When our Print Style is applied through the Sheet Index and Print Organizer, it is automatically seeking out a Cell Shape and putting a Fence around it. We wish to print around the Sheet Model border.

Our current workaround workflow is to launch the Print Organizer through the Sheet Index. This prompts the User to select a Print Style. The Print Style is selected and applied to all Sheets in the Sheet Index. However, when printed, a Fence is used as the "Print Area" and grabs the completely wrong area. We then have to use the "Convert to fixed print definitions" command on all sheets and change the Print Area from Fence to Sheet. The Print Style has been created with Sheet as the Print Area setting, however, this seems to be ignored in practice.

Anyone else experience this issue? We are using OpenRoads Designer Connect 2021 R1 - which may have something to do with it.
