I’m trying to simulate side by side of two identical ships using “Obstacle” option (Fig.1). I put -obstacle after describe piece of vessel Bc (Bc.ppo file attached). I compute &weight for both vessels and check the equilibrium status, but I found the total weight and buoyancy for “obstacle vessel”, which is vessel Bc remain 0.00 (Fig.2) . Also the panel generated of vessel Bc is 0 (Fig.3), it gives all hydrodynamic properties of vessel B in output file are zero.

So I came up with these question:

Is obstacle option make the vessel remain fixed (do not move along with the floating object)?

In the side by side cases we usually observe the “multibody effect” from each body, not only the incident wave and diffracted wave on the lee side, but also the radiation wave (relating to added mass and damping components) of those vessels. How to model multibody effect in MOSES?

I also attached the side by side model below.

communities.bentley.com/.../Side-by-Side.rar

Thanks in advance,

I'm trying to understand the meaning of "BCN" and "ECN" stated in the MOSES Manual Chapter " IX.D.3 The &STRING String Function" (Page 80). There it is stated : "For SUBSTR, the result will be the characters BCN through ECN of the input string, STRING(1).". However no explanation in detail about BCN and ECN.

Could you explain more and give an example on how to use it?
