Hello All,

Has anyone else been experiencing absolutely abysmal performance of Connect with point clouds recently? Even really small clouds like 52mb are crashing Connect.

apart from crashing...

Takes a really long time to be able to pick off a point.

Things get even slower when a clip volume is being used.

Better performance of clouds when they are a local reference but still $hitty performance.

Tried with different databases from different machines, phase and pulse no perceivable change.

Compressing sometimes helps. Not really though.

Side note: Can we get a fix for the Reality Model / Level Manager problem!?!?

Convert/Export STM to LandXML

I need to get my developed STM (ContextCapture Editor) out to LandXML or something else to share with collaborators in C3d. I can get the contours out easy enough and I can see the triangles doing everything I want them to do with breaks and such. Just need the last bit.

Ok, my brain has officially checked out today...

Is there any reason that 2 .dgns would print differently given the following criteria...

Using v8i ss4

Both v8 dgns

Using print dialog (ctrl+p)

same pen table

same view attributes

same color tables

no overrides

Microstation Connect Background Map - Alternative resources

Hello All,

I have been having mixed experiences with the positional quality of the Background Map capability under View Attributes dialog. Does there already exist a solution to using an alternate resource (other than Bing) for getting maps as the background.

I have been instructing my coworkers to use this capability and sometimes it doesn't work out so well. They used to use Google before that workflow died.

Anyway, here is an image of the Bing map behind surveyed information and a correct GCS.

This is unfavorable, so I compared it to a WMS feed thinking that it might repeat there.

Nope. Pretty good actually. So, can we have additional sources built into MicroStation outside of Bing please?

Hi Everyone,

We have a workflow for legacy projects that goes like this...

Open file, place fence on sheet boundary 'ticks', open Print Dialog (ctrl+p), choose pltcfg, enter scale into Print Dialog, choose pen table (one of 3 that change the size of cells dependent on scale) as design script, print.

What I want to do is write a statement that will include all factors for the cells (instead of 3 files being chosen manually), test for the scale in the print dialog so so the cells scale correctly. Can I get that information from the print dialog through a pen table?

Bentley Connections Passports

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know who can tell me what the Bentley Connections Passports are on our licensing. Bentley can't give me a straight answer what these offer or why I need them We are getting charged a great deal over the years for them though. Furthermore, looks like there are errors in reporting on them as well. You guys might want to look at this line item if you have it.

In other news, Has anyone been having problems with their requests not being answered or AM's not following up with requests? Seems to be prevalent for us these days.

Why don't we have .e57 export ability

3MX file geo-referencing incorrectly into Microstation

I'm trying to reference a 3mx file into Microstation. The mesh comes in with Easting and Northing both too large by a factor of 3.281...

Living in North Carolina, I am using the GCS NAD83 EPSG:2264. This GCS is in USft. My microstation drawing and my ContextCapture product are both in this GCS.

I've verified my control points' accuracy in Acute3D viewer and they're spot on. I've imported the ascii file with my ContextCapture GCPs and they are coming in at the correct location.

Why is my mesh referencing in at such an interesting scale factor? (1m=3.281ft)

WTH - Move/Copy Parallel

Hi Everyone,

So I am using Connect (latest build) to perform some modeling tasks and I created some line work to depict some steel that I was going to then create a shape out of and extrude along a path. The line work I drew that I'm attempting to offset copy parallel is coplanar. When I offset copy parallel the linework I'm not getting the mitered capability. Regardless of what mode I choose I get the same thing. Giphy doesn't show my choosing the "rounded" mode but the same thing happens. Ideas?

Array with variables and expression builder

Hello all,

I would like to know if anyone has developed a way to produce a polar array (rectangular or linear would be of interest also) with variables and expression builder for either 2d or 3d. Ultimately I would like to create a plate that has holes in it. The plate OD would be based on the bolt circle. The bolt hole would then be arrayed at a value of 6,8 or 10. An extrusion of the plate would be controlled by another variable. Or am I SOL and have to use GC? On that note, is GC for v8i still free? We don't have AECOSim licensing so we can't use connect.

Reality meshes and section views

Can anyone explain why reality meshes don't appear with their coloring in section views? I thought maybe setting the presentation would fix that but it didn't. I must be overlooking something. I created the section view from and overall of a reality mesh I created through ContextCapture. I wanted to create elevations of the buildings in the reality mesh. Ideas?

batch processing - working and storage units

Hi Everyone,

I have about 400 files that I performed a batch process on. That process was to change the working units (set units) and then save settings (filedesign) with keyins in a command file (-.txt).

I thought further and would like to know how best to approach the following and whether or not it can be achieved with vba. These solutions do not need to reside all in the same program as I may run one independent from the other.

1. Query files and list their respective resolution settings (unit type, resolutions units per unit of measure) and export that list to a text or excel file. Filename, Path, settings.

2. Change files in a batch process from one set of resolution units to another. Instead of opening each file and performing the change.

3. Scale objects from global origin, then scale cells by origin. I think I have this part figured out.
