[OBM SS3 MR1] error creating solid

Hi,

From time to time, when adding point control for my deck I'm getting an error saying "Error creating solid. Self intersecting sections detected. Please verify template dimensions and constraints". What that means and where the error might come from? Thanks.

[ORD U4] End condition - transition mesh not generating correctly

Hi,

I come across a problem with transition between EC solutions. For some reason the transition mesh is not created correctly even though the 3D linear elements are continuous (I achieved it by assigning feature name override). It looks like mesh transition ignores that fact and as shown on the screenshot below, ditch bottom is not connected properly. One of this EC scenario has one more point from another, I tried to add one point to make number of points the same on both EC scenarios thinking it will prompt mesh transition to generate desired result but nothing like this... I also tried to define end condition exception, transition type, without the success.

Any thought how to deal that problem?

Custom 3D line styles from V8i don't work under CONNECT

Hi,

I created bunch of custom 3D line styles in V8i generation software and now they don't work in CONNECT. The way I build these line styles is I used meshes rather than solids (to keep them lighter size-wise) and it seems to be the reason why they are not recognised in CONNECT. Any reason why such defined line styles are not supported? If not, can this be fixed asap so we don't need to recreate

Amending Horizontal Alignment

I have done a horizontal and vertical alignment for a 10km road. How can I amend the horizontal alignment without loosing the entire vertical alignment. As soon as I drop complex status on the Horizontal alignment, my Vertical alignment disappears

ORD Error in top mesh

We're having problem with top mesh going across the corridor in some areas where End Condition Exception (I've got number of ECE but the issue is only in few locations) is applied. Does anyone come across this? Any idea what may causing it? Is it a bug? I'm running 2020R2. Thanks.

Creating a template to transition varying crossfalls & cut / fill

Hi,

I've created a template that will alter the verge crossfall from 0% when earthworks in cutting and -2.5% when the earthworks are on embankment.

When the template switches from cut to fill though I get gaps in the verge and earthworks, I've tried everything I can think of but it's blowing my mind now!! :)

ORD Earthworks volumes

Hi,

I am looking for a method to calculate more complex cut/fill volumes with Openroads Designer update 2. This could be easily done with EAV methods, now it seems more cumbersome as EAV tools are not included in the software package anymore. I am aware that EAV is not 100% accurate method and this prismoidal approach may be eventually beneficial, however it needs a few enhancements.

With ORD it is quite easy to create meshes of cut and fill for simple earth work scenario when you just need to calculate volumes between bottom of proposed road and a top of existing terrain but this is not a real life scenario at all.

In real projects we need to include at least topsoil stripping or existing pavement demolition. Adding demolition or stripping components to corridor definition is not an option for complex project where more than a few template drops are defined (there is a youtube video showing how to create topsoil stripping component posted to CivilTSG channel) - my workaround is to edit existing terrain model - actually as they will do during the construction phase - I just remove topsoil, existing pavement, etc. Time consuming but doable and in fact gives understanding of construction process. That's for typical projects.

For more complex scenarios we need to include top soils stripping, demolitions, ground replacemnet (MDC removal and replacing). Unsuitable ground should be replaced with fill when needed, etc. That was easily achievable with Inroads 8.7 - V8i SS4 when using EAV methods. How to deal with this now? What is the suggested Bentley's best practice that would work for industry standards?

How to automatically calculate volumes for multiple soil layers in OpenRoads PowerCivil?

I have 3 stacked terrain models (1. Existing Ground, 2. Topsoil Stripped and 3. Mountain) and a corridor cutting through all three terrains. When calculating End-Area Volumes, is it possible to automatically calculate/devide the Cut volume into these three soil-types, based on the terrain-models?

[ORD U6] slope annotation on linear templates

Used corridor clipping, now ALG is missing from corridor.

I used corridor clipping to remove the bridge portion from my corridor. I decided I wanted to remove the clip and put the bridge back. It is now saying I don't have a corridor clipping to remove and now my horizontal and vertical alignments are not attached to the corridor.

Is there a way to reattached my proposed ALG's to the corridor without redoing the corridor? I have super elevation, point control, end condition excepts, etc. all done and don't have time to restart.

I noticed this issue when I was trying to produce Plan & Profile sheets and realized I couldn't find an active profile to display.

[ORD] Why do Dynamic Cross Sections have to process Corridors to update?

Hi all,

Once our corridors start getting larger and take longer to process, we are struggling with having to wait an additional period just to get the Dynamic Cross Section view to process the same corridor all over again.

The question I have is why? None of the other dynamic tech in ORD requires this. The additional processing is a deterrent for many users to use a tool they need to do their job.

Bugs for OpenRoads Designer Update 4( the latest version)

Hi,

Recently, I use the ORD U 4 to do a modeling project, and find several bugs.

AccuSnap function:

ORD usually gets dead when AccuSnap function is activated, for example, when creating a corridor and select the position, the cursor will automatically snaps the nearest element which is a reference file and including a lot of line elements, and if snap point is not what I want, I have to move cursor, but sometimes, ORD get dead when moving cursor over the reference element.

Linear Template tool:

If the model that is created by Linear Template tool need to be deleted, once click the delete button, ORD gets dead, and stop working dialog appears.

Besides, the key station can not be applied in the model that is created by Linear Template tool.

3D line style:

Everything is OK in MSTN Update 10, when copy the *.RSC file to its designated path of ORD, the 3D line style show nothing, but the 3D line style name can be seen in the line style selection dialog.

Exporting model to LumenRT Update 10

The Exporting model can not be done always successfully , sometimes, the 3D line Style element gets lost. before re-exporting, I have to zoom in the model close enough, and adjust view windows scale until the details(3D linestyle) can be seen, then the exporting could be done successfully, but I have to adjust view window many times, and do the exporting many times.

Hope you guys can checks these bugs above, and fix ASAP.

[ORD 2020R3] SSD analysis takes ages

Hi All,

We're running some tests on 2020R3 and found that SSD analysis (with Move Target to achieve visibility option enabled) takes ages (right now around one hour and still processing) in comparison to the same analysis run in 2020R2 (used to take up to 5 min). The model I analyze is roughly 3km long corridor and I use alignment + surface input. Anyone else come across this?
