In a cell-library model, I have a reference to an external file, and used a fence to create a clip boundary to hide some of it. When I go to place this cell anywhere, the reference in this cell appears unclipped and I see its entire contents.

Is there a way to retain the clip boundary (or clip mask) when placing a nested cell?

Thanks! Hope your days are going well!

EDIT: It doesn't matter if the reference is from a different file or the same.

We have a file where one model is referenced into another within the same file. All [custom] line styles shown in the reference are completely different styles than how they appear in the parent model. This is only the case when the file is opened Read-Only.

There are no outside references that would affect this.

Re-importing line styles from the resource file does not fix it.

Level overrides are not being used, nor would they change the line style if it were to be set.

MS_SYMBRSRC is as it should be.

Compressing the file does not fix it.

I am unable to share the file. [EDIT: see GNN.dgn in later post.]

Any idea what would be causing this? It's unknown how old the seed file is that was used or if it began from a fresh DGN file. For now, presume it isn't corrupt.

The file appears and can be printed fine if it isn't opened read-only. The question is what's causing it in the first place? This is an odd problem we haven't seen before. It seems like one other forum post (118811) had the same problem, however it was left unanswered.

Thanks!

In MicroStation CONNECT (Update 15), how can I add a thread to a hole feature? I don't have the appropriate option in the tool settings (see image). Is it something added to Update 16 (since it mentions it in 16's help file online), or am I missing something somewhere?

Also, are there any other ways to add threads at all (e.g., to the outside of a revolved custom shape)?

I have two survey files. One older survey uses an older state projected geographic coordinate system and the newer survey uses a newer projected GCS. When both are referenced into a mutual file (both Geographic-Reprojected), all points are 1.5–2 feet off from each other, give or take. Using any other projection on one doesn't come much closer.

Is there a way to adjust a setting somewhere to make them fall closer together, since reprojected references aren't allowed to be moved? Or, is this the closest they can get?

Assume I cannot have one's survey coordinates rerun under the other's coordinate system.

See attached image. (I work for a company that may not allow me to attach design files.)

Changing "Reference Reprojection Settings" to Yes or If Spatially Large, or the method to AEC Transform, appears to make no difference.

After drawing something using dimension-driven design (DDD) tools, is it possible to copy only the geometry (without the constructions), paste it, and then remove all DDD links/bindings/evidence from the pasted "thing?" The issue I'm having is when you go to dimension the pasted geometry, a message appears saying "Fixed Point Constraint required before placing constraint dimensions."

I don't want the pasted geometry to be DDD, nor look for fixed points because it was once a DDD. The reason being is because it may be easier to draw some things using DDD, but I'm willing to bet the vast majority of co-workers of mine either don't know it exists or how to work it, so I'd like it to be as easy for them as a normal drawing would be if someone else were to go in and edit it.

Thanks for the help!

REPLICATION:

1-4) Fully constrain construction lines.

1) Draw 4 lines in a number sign/"hashtag" formation.

2) [Constrain Elements] so there are 2 vertical and 2 horizontal lines, converting the lines to constructions.

3) [Constrain Points At] each intersection and make one of those a [Fixed Point]

4) Dimension the length and width to fully constrain the construction. (I guess it's an unnecessary step for the example, but good practice.)

5) [Attach Line String or Shape] connecting the dots and forming a rectangle.

6) Copy and Paste the rectangle only. Dimensioning this second rectangle will give an error I don't want.

Practically, I'll be using DDD in a dummy file and pasting the geometry into a live file everyone else will see, which is why I would like to do it this way. Even if I were to delete all the construction lines and points from the original rectangle, I would get the error message there, too.

ISSUE: I've come to realize the mask tool in the reference dialog, if it's not its main purpose, is best used to hide geometry around dimension lines and text so they're clearer to read, especially with 2D models and 3D wireframes. Every time I go to mask a 3D model displayed in another style/presentation other than wireframe, however -- for instance, "Hidden Line" display especially -- it will behave as a cut and will show solid object edges around that fence and will print as such, as opposed to what I perceive the word "mask" should mean and behave.

SCENARIO: In a busy 3D drawing it's nice to turn the Hidden Line or Illustation displays on to see clearly, as opposed to trying to dimension through a million wireframe lines. It's pretty frustrating because it almost prevents me from "nicely" dimensioning, let's say, the centerline distances of columns. If I mask through a column, instead of breaking the lines it looks like a stalagmite/stalactite.

I know I'm wordy, but hopefully you understand. Apparently I'm the only one who has this problem 'cause I can't find an answer anywhere, and if there is an answer it'd be a HUGE help in the future! I realize MicroStation is weak with 3D functionality, at least in my opinion and with the version my work has.

Any ideas? Display styles options don't seem to help. It happens with all useful display styles/reference presentations that I see, and with both Features and Solids. Hopefully it's a config variable or print setting I'm missing but I've wrapped my head around this for at least a few days now. It happens on both V8i SS2 V.8.11.xx and V8i SS3 V 8.11.xx.

REPLICATION:

In a 3D design model, draw a rectangle and extrude it, or create a Feature Slab or Solid Slab (In my picture, the left rectangle is a feature extrusion and the right is a solid extrusion, with one rectangular fence/mask running through the center).

Change the display style from Wireframe to Hidden Line.

Reference this model into a drawing or sheet model, coincident or any orientation.

Make sure the reference's presentation is From Parent or Hidden Line (just not Wireframe)

Fence over an edge of the solid and mask the reference.

If you don't see edges as if you cut a chunk out of the solid, then you should see it in the print preview. To me, "mask" should mean "hide what I see;" not "cut my solid."

Thanks. If this isn't an issue in a later version of MicroStation, let me know also. Maybe I can use that to pitch for updated software, :).

Usually I can find an answer to a question somewhere in the interwebs, but I can't seem to find one for this. I'm officially stumped. I look to you.

Is there a function within MicroStation (V8i SS2/3) that will show/draw the centerline between two curves, whether they be curves of straight lines, arcs, splines, or a combination thereof, whether 2D or 3D?

(Essentially, what's shown here http://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/w/road_and_site_design__wiki/creating-a-centerline-alignment-between-two-horizontal-alignments.aspx -- but with MicroStation. Not InRoads.)

Picture a creek, or a highway where the width of the median may vary, or something like those. I want to be able to pick the shoreline or edge of the highway and automatically get the centerline of said creek or median.

Such a thing seems possible in my head or on paper, but on the screen? Any ideas?

Thanks!
