In OpenRoads Designer, is there a setting to allow labels to be placed relative to the current view? Similar to how dimensions and notes have always worked in Microstation.

I am trying to place a label (station, offset) in a design model with the view rotated parallel to the alignment.

I have 3 stacked terrain models (1. Existing Ground, 2. Topsoil Stripped and 3. Mountain) and a corridor cutting through all three terrains. When calculating End-Area Volumes, is it possible to automatically calculate/devide the Cut volume into these three soil-types, based on the terrain-models?

Strange Error/Message Box: "Name required as parameter for this function." when exiting a file with Project Wise.

When I exit a file in our PW managed workspace, I often get this a message box carrying this message. The dialog title is Bentley InRoads V8i (SELECTseries 4) so I am attributing this error to InRoads and not Project Wise. If that is wrong, feel free to move this post to that forum.

Is there any way (Keyin, dialog, other) to give a data point at zero offset, profile grade elevation?

Yes, I am aware of the SE= precision keyin. I have to know the profile grade elevation already in order to use that.

I am hoping (against hope!) that there is some way to get the profile grade elevation for a known station while in that cross section(!) and use it to place an element.

Geopak had a great tool for this, but I am, unfortunately, no longer working in Geopak. Does InRoads have anything I can use like that?

Feature Definition not Creating 3D Elements Automatically

The setting for "Automatically Create 3D Elements" is turned on in the linear default settings so that should make the template automatically create the lines that I need.

The image below shows a point on the template that is drawing the line properly.

The next image shows two points, while using the same feature definition in the same template, that are not drawing the lines properly.

I can't figure out why the "Automatically Create 3D Elements" would work for one point but not the other points even when I am using the same feature definition in the same template.

I have a corridor that creates 3d lines ie Ditch Flowlines. I want to extract them back out to an alignment with profile. What is the best way to get that information?

Hi All,

I would like to ask in terms of offset from alignment. I am pretty new in Bentley software. Is it possible to create offset from horizontal alignment which will generate a polyline and no another alignment. I am used to working in Civil 3D. I was wondering, if is it possible also in OpenRoads. I am creating a tramway corridor and this tool would be very helpful for me. Thank you.

Drawing Production Tools in OpenRoads Designer

It is really helpful that Drawing Production is automated and based on a "Live" dataset ... but the sprawling labyrinth of interconnected live design models, special view windows, and saved views need to be streamlined.

The user has to go on a Safari through an ecosystem of design models to perform simple tasks ... especially on large projects.

There should be an option for placing the printable profile, cross sections, named boundaries, and associated annotation in a single model just like we do in the SS2 environment.

In such a setup I can have my alignment, profile, and cross sections in one model. Edit the profile annotation then the grades, cross sections, and associated annotations update in real time ... then I hit print ... now that level of simplicity and productivity would get many motivated to use OpenRoads Designer.

Will OpenRoads Designer update 2 include the ability to create plan and profile sheets in separate files? Instead of creating all the plan and profile sheet models and drawing models in a single file.

Example: Plan sheet 1 would include one drawing model and one sheet model. Plan sheet 2 would include one drawing model and one sheet model. The drawing models would reference a "container file", which the named boundaries and references reside. The sheet models reference the drawing model contained in the same file.

Non-Corridor Modelling

Hi,

I have an urban type design project that has a lot variations in the cross section. I.e. parking lanes, turn lanes, through lanes, various width medians and footpaths etc.

I have started designing in 2D using the geometry tools, my next step is to take this model to 3D. Is there any training videos or wikis that go into the 3D non-corridor modelling in more detail?

I went away from the template model because I thought I would need to create too many different templates and transition between them, could I use templates for this instead of the geometry tools?

Drafting Notes in-line Leader elongation

ORD Update 3 - Label Placement Issues

We are experiencing three different issues when placing labels.

The first concerns label levels. No matter what our active level is set to, when we place a label it places it on the "Default" level. We've looked through the Text Styles menu and the Fields Editor and see no place to set the level a label is placed on. How can we assign a level when placing labels?

The second problem concerns the angle at which the label text is placed. It orients the text to true north and we need to it orient the text to match the angel of the default view we placed it in and we'd like there to be an option where we could make the orientation dynamic to match the angle of the view as it's rotated. Similar to the annotation groups placement variable "Rotation Option" which can be set to "Angle Value" which will cause the text to remain horizontal as the view is rotated.

The last issue is with the font of the label text. No matter what font we assign (in this case Engineering Heavy) to the text style used to create the text favorite, it places the label text with the default font. The text size and weight are correct but the font is not. How can this issue be corrected or are we missing some setting that we need to adjust.

When entering a slope of say 50% it jumps up to 5000%.

Can this be fixed in an upcoming update?
