I was wondering if anyone had experience with modeling steel framing over short gravity walls. I have a Floor with a height of 18'. Some of the interior walls are shorter at about 12', with a continuous footing along them. The entire floor has steel framing, including above these short walls. There are steel beams and girders spanning overhead, but not loading these short walls in any way.

I first drew my walls, lowered their height by -6', and then tried drawing my steel beams on top. The error message I get is "Unable to Add this Beam. Span crosses another member at (some coordinate)."

Do I have to make a second floor layout that is identical, but with the added short walls? If so, what will modeling my other lateral and gravity walls as a 6' tall wall stacked on top of a 12' wall do? Will it still be the same as a monolithic 18' wall? In addition, are there any extra considerations to the openings in my lateral walls that coincide with the stacking of these two layers?

Thank you in advance!

Ask A Question I

Ask a question in a forum.

How do I move elements from one layout to another?

I've accidentally modeled all my columns on the wrong layout (let's say layout A)- and would like to copy them into another existing layout (layout B). Layout B has a lot of existing walls, beams, girders, etc and it seems the layout copy function only works for copying into a completely blank layout. Is there anything I can do?
