I understand that a corridor mesh - being displayed - is a function of the design stage (as set within the DGNLIB). Such as when the design stage is changed from "design" (no corridor mesh is displayed) to "final" (corridor mesh is displayed).

NOT displaying a corridor mesh, within the current corridor modeling file, increases (or at least) helps with performance. My question has to do with changing the design stage BACK from "final" to "design". The mesh 'display' does, in fact, go away (it is not displayed in the Default-3D model/view). However, the level, used by the mesh element, is still populated and showing usage (Level Manager).

So, is the corridor performance tied to the DISPLAY of the corridor mesh or the fact that it exists (or existed) at some point?

It does not seem possible that selection of the mesh element, for deletion, works. Basically, it does not delete. I guess it is tied to the corridor model itself in some way. Maybe I am missing something(?).

Create a Shape 'Area' & 'Length' Item Type

This is my first time in trying to create an Item Type. It is simple in its complexity. I want to assign a 'name', a 'area', and a 'length' to a shape. All in MicroStation CONNECT Update 17.

I created the Item Type, as shown in the image (below).

For The Area...
Type=Number
Units=acres [acres]
Expression=this.GetElement().Area

For The Length...
Type=Number
Units=ft (US Survey) [foot (US Survey)]
Expression=this.GetElement().length

I then assigned ('Attach Item' tool) the Item Type to the sample shape element.

However, the "Label_DA" information does not reflect the values of the sample shape, as shown further up in the Properties dialog.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

Profile Sheet - OFFSET - Strip Grade Elevations

I want to create profile sheet strip grade elevations, of which the existing elevation is targeted "offset from the horizontal geometry by 12 feet".

The situation is for a divided highway. We have a mainline geometry (down the middle median), with stationing. This will control the stationing (as displayed on the profile sheet(s)).

The proposed strip grade elevation (on the profile sheet) will come from the created proposed vertical geometry element(s). So that is no problem.

In our geometry files we built...

[1] A northbound {proposed} vertical geometry representing the 12' right offset. This hits the inside edge of pavement for the northbound lanes.

[2] A southbound {proposed} vertical geometry representing the 12' left offset. This hits the inside edge of pavement for the southbound lanes.

These two vertical geometry elements control the proposed strip grade elevation (on the profile sheet). We have two sets of profile sheets - one for northbound and the other for southbound.

However, I do not want to use the existing (terrain surface) elevation - directly under the horizontal geometry element as an existing strip grade elevation (on the profile sheet). I want the existing (terrain surface) strip grade elevations to reflect a horizontal perpendicular offset of 12' RT {Northbound} and 12' LT {Southbound}.

I have been studying Annotation Group creating and editing, in hopes of find a way through those settings to create the "offset" existing (terrain surface) strip grade elevation. Have not seen a way through that means yet.

The following BE Communities Wiki was helpful in understanding that the two elevations [existing strip grade elevation and proposed strip grade elevation] come from two different sources (files) - existing terrain and geometry (respectively).

Video: Profile Annotation - Controlling Existing Grade and Proposed Grade Elevation

It seems to me that it would have to be done through an Annotation Group, as it is this that guides the creation of the strip grade elevations, in the profile drawing model.

Any suggestions?

Node Limit Within ORD Drainage & Utilities

Is there a Node limit when using ORD Drainage & Utilities... by itself. However, we do not want the sound wall to influence the proposed terrain model, coming out of the proposed corridor. Basically, we want the sound wall to be present "on top" of the proposed terrain. Actually, the sound wall will be both above and below ground, counting the footing of the wall. Basically, this would be like a retaining wall, which is "retaining nothing".

I'm sure this can be done. Is there a setting for the component, within the template? Or is it dependent on the feature assigned to the component?

I'm trying to figure out how to use the Place Table tool in MicroStaion/ OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition. We have a very standard format for some of our data and would like tables to be created exactly as they are in Excel.

Below is how the data looks in Excel:

You can see that most of the text does not come through and not all of the row heights are preserved. The column widths are preserved.

Below is what it looks like when not preserving the formatting:

The driver is modified, some what; limited to form sizes, color settings, and PDF resolution to 300,300.

We set our cross section sheets with a transparency 30 and priority of -100 on the minor grid lines. This has an effect of diming them down and setting them behind the cross section road elements. The sheets look better.

However, each cross sheet (page) within the plan set PDF file, takes a long time to print. (Bluebeam to printer.)

To test this, the transparency (on all the minor grid lines) was changed back to 0 (zero). The same sheets printed rather quickly. [Certainly did not sit an watch a slow moving progress bar for each and every sheet.] So it is apparent that adding a extensive amount of transparent elements (minor grid lines on a cross section sheet, for example) adds a large amount of print time - each and every time the PDF is to be printed.

I guess I don't see why transparent elements adds so much print time.

My questions... Has this been true for anyone else? Do I have to look at some other method (pen tables, etc.) to get the desired effect.
