The beam is 10m long and its section is 1m high x 0.01m thick. The beam has a load of 100kN in the centre of the span.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;If I calculate the stress using Navier&amp;#39;s formula in the botom of the web, at centre of the span, I get this:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;M=P*L/4 = 100 * 10 /4&amp;nbsp; = 250 kNm&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;W = I/y = 8.333E-4 / 0.5 = 1.666E-3&amp;nbsp; m3&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;stress = M/W = 150,000 kN/m2 = 150 N/mm2 (tensile)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In my Staad Pro model I get SY= 74.278 N/mm2&amp;nbsp; (please see picture below).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What am I doing wrong?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Any help will be very appreciated.&lt;/p&gt;
