So far I'm the only one using the software. The other office wants to check my work. I was able to cobble an SS2 version, but I guess the time has come to ask: If i make a file in OpenRoads, can someone with OpenSite open and/or view it?

I had zero exposure to what OpenRoads Designer was, and less of OpenSite. Does OpenSite have a similar configuration setup as OpenRoads? If so, can I drop in PennDOT's WorkSpace in the same way as OpenRoads? I'm guessing if so, then it should be no problem to easily open an ORD file (he said with a touch of trepidation).

OpenRoads Designer Export from All Points Features window, revise, and re-import the csv back into

We need to revise points for a file. What was decided was to try and export the data from the file, make changes, and re-import. As I understand (@caddcop probably clued me on this), there is no real methodology to export data from an ORD file in the manner one could with PowerSurvey SS2. You can export all the information in the file from the Details Window (first blank cell at upper left, right-click, Export ). While it gives you far more than you need, the folks at the other end liked what they saw (I'd forgotten the Control Codes column where JoinPoint stuff resides). The decision was made to make the changes to that resulting csv file, and then import into a new file. In theory that should have worked.

Another nod to Chuck (@caddop) is that you can import csv files. Just right click over Field Book 1 (or whatever name is given) and select Import. The first time I did that it worked! So naturally, eight months later, I did the same thing. Nothing. I then tried the Wizard. Also nothing.

I have a feeling that the first line of the csv, which has the titles from the Details window, needs to be deleted. Then I'll try to import that file. If that doesn't work, then I'll edit the csv to to delete all the columns save the 6 or 7 I typically have with a points file.

The goal here is to have a new file that looks pretty much like the old file, with the changes to certain points, and everything else as it was before these changes needed to be made.

I'm being extraordinarily hopeful that I can do this.

In fact, there is an option to reload from the points file. Is that possible in ORD? The follow up to that question would be, does it overwrite the points in the drawing?

The context for this is we have a six-column points file - Point Name, Northering, Eastering, Elevation, Code, and Note. That last column, Note, may sometimes contain text that gets put into the drawing (e.g. a symbol for a utility pole may also contain text for the pole number, and that number is pulled from the Note column). Somehow the sixth column was left off, needs to be added to the points files, then reloaded/update the points within the drawing.

Does that make sense?

Export ORD Survey Data to CSV?

Good morning all,

I am using ORD 2020 Release 3 Update 9 and trying to export my edited survey data to a CSV. The data was created by importing a CSV via the TIW however I can't seem to find any export formats other than XML, DBX, Trimble Link, or Bentley Survey format. I know that I was able to do it in InRoads SS4 by creating a new TEW format. Looking to get something like "Name,Northing,Easting,Elevation,Code,Desc,Attributes" which is the same format used when the data was imported. I've edited the survey codes and would now like to export a complete CSV with the updated codes.

Any thoughts on how I could do this?

We are now at a place where production drawings need to be reviewed. The reviewer does not have ORD, nor do they need it as they are not production people. They have access to PS SS2, but that, of course, can't read an ORD file.

This is a more direct question and one I expect someone from the Bentley organization to chime in on: What viewer(s) are available that can view an ORD or OSD file?

It would be nice if it had some markup capabilities, but I'll settle for just being able to view the file and have the viewer see exactly what I see.

I had some responses to my other post suggesting such things as itwin. While I thank you for your suggestions, what I was able to glean from the Bentley site didn't seem to be quite what I was looking for.

However, since not everyone is up to speed with ORD from knowing how to use the program to even *having* the program brings us to this question:

How does the reviewer review an ORD file if they don't have ORD?

So my first question is: Does Bentley have a viewer that view an ORD (or an ORS, because that's gonna be next) file?

The next option for consideration is how to export a file into some format that's at least reviewable, if not necessarily perfect. This morning we learned how to export an ORD to v7 (we're still using Power Survey SS2 per, as I understand it...its all way before my time, PennDOT.), and we figured out how to export the terrain model into a dtm file. As yet I haven't figured out how to export the survey data into a comma-delimited text file that we can import into the rest of the file. Before you ask I think the points in the ORD have been or will be edited in some fashion that just using the original points file isn't practical. And just to know how to do it, which, as of this writing isn't obvious how it's done.

Finally, the last and, I guess the easiest option: Find some software that allows the reviewer to access your machine and, in essence, look over your shoulder while you pan and zoom around the drawing making whatever edits they think necessary in real time.

Hopefully this is helpful for others.

Thanks!

How to setup text to appear differently when using "transpose" on alignment in Power Survey SS2

I am using Power Survey SS2 to create a main alignment with several other alignments touching the main alignment. In order to have the stationing correct on one secondary alignment (it travels south to north, all the others were north to south), I had to use transpose.

This is what I got:

The way the text appears is the way the software put it in. It looks "odd" and I'm guessing that I'll be asked to change how it looks. Probably moving the "109 PI{" to the other side of the line and rotating the text 180 degrees). In other words make in look like the other alignments that run vertically rather than the main which runs horizontally. I can do this, and it's only one line, but part of me thinks that if I have to update this for any reason, the software with put in all back like you see it.

Is there a setting I should be looking at when running transpose, or is it just run it and fix it manually?

The printing process requires me to use something called PDF Creator to make the pdf. Everything was fine until yesterday when some reviewing the file noticed that it was "fuzzy" (see screenshot below).

I don't know what's changed. I make it policy to use "default settings" or company/project settings 99.99% of the time (personal customizations only need to disappear once because of updates to not use personal customizations).

All pdf software has been updated (I now have the most recent which isn't the "older version" on another's machine, but that version works....and it's not available for me to reinstall to). We tried using "Microsoft Print to PDF" and "BlueBeam" with no improvement. And, really, why don't I have an option to print to pdf from inside MicroStation/Power Survey? Why do I even need a third-party software to create pdfs??

In that same spirit I titled this post: what's an xin file?

The company has been using Power Survey V8i (SELECT Series 2) - Version 08.11.07.494 for quite some time. Since there are a number of active, legacy projects, I would imagine we're going to be using this for some time.

In light of that, and while trying to transition that workspace to Open Roads Designer, I've gotten a cursory tour of the xin file that's in use. My sense is the file is functional and works well for what we do, but it feels like it's not been fleshed out much beyond that, nor has the capabilities of the file really been explored. The file also has felt cumbersome in making the transition to ORD by way of SS4.

Finally, since there has always been a dearth of documentation for MicroStation in general, and now, Power Survey in particular, beyond the help tile (which doesn't ), and there appears to be no documentation in the office, I'm turning to all of you to gain a better understanding of this file, to tweak it a little, and perhaps make it more amenable to moving it to SS4 and then into OpenRoads.

Clip mask entities that are not part of a reference

I have file that I will be using at different scales. At the current scale, part of the background extends past the border (see screenshot below). When I try to clip mask using the inside border line, Unfortunately it wants to clip the stuff inside the border (which is more than likely what it was intended to do), while I need it to mask the stuff outside the border!

Sort of trimming and erasing (a practice I don't want to set a precedent for), can this be masked? What do I need to do?

I was at the point of putting in the stations when I was made aware that there were station equalities that needed to be addressed. At the intersection of the green and blue lines there are two stations: P.O.T. STA. 18+81.85 NORTH AVENUE (the blue line traveling west to east) = P.O.T. STA. 50+00.00 ARCH STREET (the green traveling north to south).

As I understand it, to address the station equalities, and to station the blue line to start) I would have to measure the distance from the end of the blue line to the intersection of the green and blue lines, and then subtract that number from the blue line station. The resulting number would be the station at the start of the line.

Still new to alignments and stationing, I put that number in to the stationing dialogue box:

...and hit apply.

Not quite the result I thought it would be.

I have a couple of sources but nothing that explains what I should have done. I have a vague idea that STA 18+81.85 might need to go into the Ahead Station, but I've nothing to confirm that.

Anyway, is there a better definition of "station equalities" than what I'm using, and what *should* I be doing in order to get the stationing correct. I have eight of these, so if I get the first one, one would think the rest should fall into place.

thanks!

Ask A Question II

Ask 10 questions in a forum.

Renumber stationing on an alignment after writing it

I'm working on my first alignment(s) using InRoads Power Survey SS2. I have an example created by one of my office mates that I'm following (I also got the Bentley InRoads ROW Fundamentals which (confusingly) fills in some gaps in the example). Not really knowing what I was doing, I just number the stations using 10+00 as a start, and wrote them to graphics.

Now I find out that the numbering should have started with 0+00! My question is, is there a way to just renumber them, or do I have to do the alignment all over again?

Thanks!
