OpenRoads export to IFC to Navisworks & Geolocation

I am new to OpenRoads and I got 2 questions:

1- I was trying to Export an OpenRoads file to IFC, I managed to open the IFC file in Solibri but not in Navisworks 2020.

Is there any workflow that I need to follow to open the IFC in Navisworks?
for example: using AecoSim to do the IFC export ?

2- the IFC export that I opened in Solibri doesn't seem to be in the right geolocation.

Is there a certain way to export to IFC and to have it in the right geolocation?

Using a Surface Template to Seek an Active Terrain for a Variable Depth Bottom Component

Hi All- Looking for some advice from the Template Pro's amongst us.

I am in the conceptual planning stages of a series of Surface Templates that I would like to setup to have the bottom most component extent its Vertical (AKA Depth) to Seek or Target a Terrain, Surface or even a design component. I have ran several test runs and have not had much luck.

In the below image, I am looking to have Point #6 & #7 seek the Active Terrain to make the depth of my "General Embankment" component, variable based on the surface below it that these bottom points are targeting. Any advice on a workflow to accomplish this would be very much appreciated.

2D Views, Hyper-modeling now available!

2D Views Widget

The 2D Views widget is now available to all users within iTwin Design Review. This widget allows users to access 2D Sheets and Drawings which are stored in the iModel. Opening a 2D View will open a new frontstage within iTwin Design Review.

The 2D Views widget can be accessed on the right side of the screen here:

This widget will automatically filter the list based on the selected elements within the 3D view. So if you want to open a 2D view for a selected element, simply select the element to see what 2D views include that element.

Hypermodeling

The 2D Views widget also gives access to hypermodeling within iTwin Design Review. If you're design includes hypermodeling it will be accessible from a toggle at the top right corner of the 2D Views widget:

When hypermodeling is toggled on the 3D model will display the location of all the available hypermodels which can be selected to display the 2D overlay on the 3D model:

Navigating to 3D View

When within the 2D frontstage users can easily navigate back to a specific area of the 3D model by selected an element and clicking the Navigate to 3D view button. This will take the user back to the 3D model and position the camera within the model at the selected element.

Spatial Containment Tree Visibility Controls

The spatial containment tree now includes visibility controls for turning on and off elements within the 3D view. The spatial containment tree is available from the dropdown within the visibility widget.

Corridor Modeling Workflow Advice

I am attempting to model several alignments within a proposed site that is riddled with changing lane widths, different shoulder types, many different curb and barrier types, and countless end conditions. For this type of modeling, and to save time on template building, I am of the opinion that the best and most efficient workflow is to build a template with my just the pavement lanes (AKA "Lanes only"), control the EOP of those lanes with a horizontal and vertical point control, and stack, or attach shoulders, curbs, end conditions, etc. to a reference point to the outside of my already established "lanes only" corridor model.

How can this be achieved?

When I attempt to add component to an already established corridor, to stack a component to the outside of an already established corridor, it sits over the top of my already established "lane only" corridor, because both templates have the same reference origin point (0,0). When I attempt to move that component to attach it to the outside of my "lane only" corridor, the point control tool will not let me use the "Attach to Corridor" point. It is blank. This has been something that I have been trying to figure out for a while now. Thank you for your help.

ProjectWise- Civil 3D Integration

This may not be the correct forum for this post, but I have a feeling one of the ORD users may have a response. Civil 3D 2021 and ProjectWise Integration- no matter what I do I can not save a Civil 3D file to ProjectWise or open a Civil 3D file from PW to edit.

"You have insufficient privileges to read/write to this file"

ORD and MicroStation work fine within the same data source/folders. Any thoughts?

ORD Vertical Profile Bug?

I keep loosing Vertical profiles in ORD 2020R3. My work flow is as follows- I will draw the vertical profile by tracing my active terrain, (snapping to it I believe) I will complex it, set it active and move on, removing the active terrain, and everything looks great. I come back to that same vertical profile after some time and this is what my profile now looks like. Is this a bug or something I am doing, and not realizing it.

This has happened over 20+ times within the last few weeks and is becoming quite frustrating.

ORD "Export to Native" Command Missing?

Greetings,

I'm using ORD 2020R3. I have geometry I'd like to export to an InRoads ALG.
I thought the command "Export to Native" is what would be used. But I cannot find it anywhere.

Was this command removed? Is the standard workflow now to export to LandXML first, and then import that XML into InRoads SS2?

Can someone point me to what I may be (and likely am) missing?

How to automatically calculate volumes for multiple soil layers in OpenRoads PowerCivil?

I have 3 stacked terrain models (1. Existing Ground, 2. Topsoil Stripped and 3. Mountain) and a corridor cutting through all three terrains. When calculating End-Area Volumes, is it possible to automatically calculate/devide the Cut volume into these three soil-types, based on the terrain-models?

Corridor Template- Edge of Pavement (EOP) Template Point

Within a ORD Corridor Template, can a EOP Point target a Feature Definition, Horizontal & Vertical as a Priority #1 and if that line is not found, can that same template point target a Active Terrain (I have an FG Surface that I am reconstructing) as a Priority #2?

I am aware that I can target a Feature Definition- Horiz & Vertical, but I am not sure if a priority can be set in a Component, like how it can be assigned in an End Condition.

Active File Feature Definitions- Write Back to Library

Within my active design file, I have assembled some frequently used Feature Definitions and collected them into their own "New Category" Feature Definition folder. I have also copied some Feature Definitions and Applied a "_Right" or _"Left" to some of them to specify sides for use with my templates.

How do I write these custom feature definitions and this new "collection folder" back to my DGNLIB from within the current Design File, for use within my other associated design files? Some of these Features have been created within a Geometry File and are for use within a Corridor File. Due to the custom folder, the path is now different on the Feature Definitions that I cut and pasted into my new category folder and can't be used within my templates now.

Openroads Cross Sections- Enlarge Stacked Cross Sections on a Sheet

How do I enlarge my cross sections that are stacked on a sheet to make them fill the sheet? The 20 Scale is the Annotation Scale, not the drawing scale (which is Full Scale: 1:1 Correct?) Alos, ORD 2020 Release 3 keep crashing upon trying to actually print the sheet view!!

Need Some Help With My Sandstorm (AKA ORD Corridor End Condition Issue)

Corridors and End Conditions! I have rebuilt my template end conditions 3 times now. Each time the problem gets worse and worse. My end condition is seeking a Horizonal Feature Definition and a Finished Grade Surface. I have a Left and a Right Side. I am doing it this way because I am trying to recreate a Design Engineers Corridor with only 2D CADD Linework and a Finished Grade DTM (XML).

I keep getting End Condition cross over from the left to right or right to left sides of my corridor. I have tried ensuring that the point names for each side are unique. I have also tried to make sure that my Feature Definition Names are Unique (Copying and Pasting, Renaming Right and Left in the ORD Standards Window) When I attach my End Condition to my main roadway assemblies, I am leaving the "Edge of AB point" and placing the "EC_HingeLeft_" Over the top of that point. Is this causing the problem? Any other thoughts on how to accomplish what I am trying to do?
