This is problematic, as these "bad" files have the potential to cause standards compliance issues and can cause other issues such as project losses due to non-compliance of the CAD standard.

We are looking for a tool that purges specific latent copies of a Managed Workspace. An automated tool to do this is preferred.

For example, a file is removed from the Managed Workspace stored in ProjectWise. However, the current workflow of ProjectWise does not remove the latent cached copies. We need some way of effectively managing these latent copies, since we have no way of determining how many cached copies there are, and no way of knowing which machines need to purge erroneous file(s). Is there a tool or process that we can use? We are not looking for a manual workflow, but an automated fix.

Acute3D acquisition:

Does anyone know when the SMART3DCapture software will be available via Enterprise Licencing?

Schema Differencing - How Are You All Coping??

We have globally deployed both OPM and OPPID, and currently are struggling now with the most-recent updates to the SS5 series because there are backbone schema updates that have occurred. We have a global dataset which we have deployed for our projects, thus allowing us to make singular updates to apply to the breadth of our projects. With the current OPM refresh update, there is a great fix with respect to Consistency Checker, but to get that fix we need to upgrade our schemas to account for any additions / alterations made over the past 18 months. THEN, once we've upgraded the schemas, we need to either update our dataset and see if it works for both old and new projects, or create a new version of the dataset just for new projects, etc.

OPPID is even more challenging because we have active projects dating back to 2010, using SS3, SS4, SS5, and now SS5 refresh 1, and also SS5 refresh 2. We grew accustom to the schema changes across major SS versions, but now there are updates within the refreshes. Deployment is a nightmare for OPPID not only for new project setups but for the ability to potentially leverage content across projects which carry similar data requirements.

Has anyone else experienced these schema update challenges? Schema Differencing is a "treat"...any ideas on a potential EASY button? Is it possible for updates to simply have new supplemental schemas with updates thus not requiring updates to base schema files? (I know some changes cannot be made without modifying the base, but maybe updates of that nature should be restricted to major releases)?

Not sure there is a point to this posting, but I hope it generates some virtual discussion...

Openplant Suite

I was just wanted to see if I can get some users thoughts of Openplant and if they would recommend we implement it in our office.

I have found that in order to export from Bentley Architecture (dgn) to Navisworks (nwd), you have to install Navisworks Manage on your PC, with this installation you will get the option to install the DGN plug-in. Basically, this will copy a series of folders and files into your MicroStation folders, which will allow you to export directly to Navisworks.

All good so far......... read on........

C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\mdlapps\nwexport9.ma

C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\mdlapps\nwexportustn8_9_9.dll

C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\mdlapps\asneeded\en-US\ nwexport9.rsc

It will also install the following folder and its files.........

C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\mdlapps\nwcreate_data9

Once Navisworks is installed you can open BA and export your model to nwd format. Use the keyin mdl load nwexport9;nwdout

NOTE: Simply copying the files to the above will not work, you need Navisworks manager installed on your PC.

This works well, but the issue is, you will need Navisworks manager installed on your PC. If you use the 30 trial period, its ok, but once the 30 days are over you are doomed.

Question to you ...........

Has anyone managed to get this to work without having to have Navisworks Manager installed which is a vast expense.

Thanks

I just noticed something strange and wondered if others have experienced this. I have the Distance Indexing setting enabled, however, it doesn't seem to reset the command. eg copy a line parallel. Copy the new line again and it shows me the lock at the same distance. If I then copy another line and do the same but make the distance greater, when I copy the new line, it only remembers the first shorter distance ?

Thanks
