This year, now that COVID is less out of control, we are back to teaching robotics. I went to set some new students up and my old links and process don't work. I presume they got hit with your new ID system. My connection client still works and still lets me use PD. But for new students, they get the Educator page where it's asking them to provide a copy of their student ID or .edu Email. As Middle and High school (6th - 12th graders), they have neither. Our schools don't issue IDs to High School students.

All the personnel I have worked with at Bentley in the past now have disconnected numbers. I've been trying for several days and I've yet to get a human being at Bentley on the phone. Well, once I got an operator who promptly put be back into the voice prompt system and a dead end.

Is there anyone at Bentley who could give me a call or email and help me get this resolved?

Thanks,
Scott scott@techht.com; scott.horton@bestinc.org

Ask A Question I

Ask a question in a forum.

Replicating user preference files across several PC's

I volunteer and coach a middle/high school robotics team. I've used Microstation at work for years. So it's a logical choice for me to have the kids use it. Saves me from learning something else. We found that Bentley has a free version of Microstation called "Power Drafting". It does everything the kids would ever need, or me for that matter. From my perspective they are equal, with only a few differences in tool names.

My problem is after I install it I want to be able to set the user preferences on the kids PC's so they all have the same layout as I use. The problem there is I have no control over their hardware or OS. Some have Windows 7, some have Windows 10. I think the file paths are different.

I've figured out the the UPF is buried and has that random folder name. So I haven't figured out a way to automate the copying of the UPF. And I'm not sure where it "lives" on Windows 10 as I use W7Pro.

Can anyone give me any suggestions on the easiest way, the instructions that is, on starting Microstation (Power Drafting), looking up the correct UPF folder, and copying a supplied UPF to that location?

Thanks,

My problem is it is stretching double of where I move my cursor. If I try to snap the stretch to another object, I get a move that is double what I wanted. I figured out that if I more to my desired snap point, then in accu-draw length entry box append "/2" and tab, I can get the thing to be the length I want.

Some times it works normal (not the 2x stretch). For example in my top view it works correctly if I stretch in the X direction, but I get the double behavior in the y direction.

Hopefully I'm describing it well. Can anyone tell me what I've set or can unset to fix this behavior?

Thanks,
