  • RE: Custom built up shape RAM elements

    Enrique Morin
    Enrique Morin
Regretfully for the Gen section the properties are used by the analysis only. The Gen shape is a tool used by many to create a dummy member as you could assign low values so it is not interfering with the rest of the analysis. Other section under…

  • RE: Sloped Joist

    Seth Guthrie
    Seth Guthrie
Here are the details from the program manual. At 2 1/4:12 I think it would be wise to involve a joist manufacturer. Chord compression would be the main concern.

  • RE: RAM Structural system to RAM Concept import

    Seth Guthrie
    Seth Guthrie
If you want a clean, mitered connection there, then you can miter or skew the ends of each beam (e.g. at 45 deg), but overlapping does not really cause any problem. If the beams are the same depth then you can also just stretch them to overlap. If one…

Here is one I happen to have. It goes in the tables folder, C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Engineering\RAM Structural System\Tables https://communities.bentley.com/cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/5932/DBLANGLE.CON

You would have to get those from the manufacturer. Just using the values of some solid sawn lumber is a start.

  • RE: Wind load distribution on semi-rigid diaphragm in a user-defined story forces

    Seth Guthrie
    Seth Guthrie
Good enough in my opinion. The whole concept of semi-rigid diaphragm analysis, including the effects of eccentricity is far beyond what anyone would have considered 20 years ago. Most of the buildings in New York and Chicago that have been standing for…

We fixed one issue but broke another in this version. We will implement a fix for the next update.

  • Import center lines, REVIT to RAM SS using ISM?

    Nik
    Nik
Is it possible to import 'other lines' (center lines marking the location of shafts), which are not Grid lines from REVIT to RAM SS using the ISM repository? I am aware of the process of importing the lines marked as GLs from REVIT to RAM SS. But I am…

  • RE: RAM Structural Steel - How do I go about modeling a deck on a slab edge enclosing the joist extensions?

    Seth Guthrie
    Seth Guthrie
You could eliminate the cantilevers altogether and simply use a large slab edge overhang. You'll get designs that way, though they could be unconservative.

Model short beams (of any material) between the tips of the cantilevers. Then model the slab edge out-board of those perimeter beams, Be aware that cantilevers on joists will also cause a special (SP) design case. See this for more: communities.bentley…
