I’m attempting to add multiple station equations to an alignment. The first equation was added but when I attempt the second it does not add it. I’m using the Geometry tab > Modify > Add Station Equation.

OpenRoads Designer Compatibility Issues with Data Centers

I wanted to discuss a compatibility issue with OpenRoads Designer and data center infrastructure. When it comes to integrating OpenRoads Designer into data center projects, I've faced some challenges that need attention.

OpenRoads Designer is an excellent software for road design, but it lacks specialized tools for data center design. Data centers have unique requirements such as power distribution, cooling systems, cabling, and rack placements, which are not effectively addressed in OpenRoads Designer.

Integration with other data center software and systems is also limited, hindering seamless collaboration and data exchange.

I believe it's important to address these compatibility issues. Let's share our experiences, suggestions, and workarounds to improve OpenRoads Designer for data center design.

[ORD 2021 R2] Can we create Civil Labels using more than one text favorite?

As I'm trying to develop our Civil labels, it looks like I can only use one text favorite per label.
Is there any way to string together multiple favorites into one label?

For example, I have a number of combinations that we use for station/offset callouts of R/W points.

Depending on the requirements, we can use 0, 1 or 2 decimal places. Some labels actually don't give the station and/or offset and just reference the R/W line. So I need Civil Labels like:

If I can parse together more than one text favorite into a label, I only need to create nine favorites. If the Civil label can only be a single favorite at a time, I have to create this whole list.
I would much rather create the pieces, and build a label to meet the need, rather than try to craft every possible permutation we might need.

I'm sure I've asked this before, but can Civil Labels be created on the fly, at the time of need, without mucking up the resource XML? It's pretty common to need something that hasn't been preset. In Civil 3D we can create new labels pretty easily that are just saved into the drawing. We do our work, don't mess up the networked resource, and keep moving. Since ORD Civil labels are written to the centrally located XML, it looks as if any new labels need to be created in that file, which is NOT the way we want it. Or does everyone end up with their own personal Civil Labeler XML that they have to open to make new labels? What happens if someone else opens the drawing, and wants to place another one of those labels (but they don't have access to the personal XML)?

OpenRoads Compress Options?

Is there a key-in or some method of purging out unused ORD Feature Definitions, Feature Symbology, Annotations Groups etc. from DGN files? Other than one at a time. This might also clean up unused ORD Feature Item Types in the file.

creating a retention basin with a sloped invert

I need to design a retention area to drain to a low point in 3D and get cut and fill quantities. I dont know what learning path to take. Im a drainage engineer so wouldnt need to take all the transportation classes. I tried a couple of videos of how to set a pond but they all come in with templates. is there a more basic class?

Superelevation Lanes

Hope all is well. I am having an issue when creating 'Superelevation Lanes by Road Template' in which the command only creates the left lane. I have narrowed the problem down to the template as I tried the command with a different road template and it works. I have made sure to 'Superelevation Flag' the Centerline and Edge of Pavement on either side. Also, I checked each point to make sure I didn't have more than one 'Superelevation Flag' on either side. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

Reverse Curve with spiral and in between Zero Tangent Length (Tangent-Spriral-Curve-Spiral-Spiral-Curve-Spiral-Tangent)

I could not found a propoer workflow to create a Reverse Curve with spiral and in btewen Tangent Length = Zero. Curve would be (Tangent-Spriral-Curve-Spiral-Spiral-Curve-Spiral-Tangent)

If there is any workflow to design this type of Curve in OpenRoad Designer, please share it.

Existing terrain

I have an existing terrain, however the existing pavement has had an 1.5" overlay, I need to incorporate this into the existing terrain. I was wondering the best approach to raise the existing pavement features 1.5", or the best way to do this?

Pond and embankment

Hello,

I want to insert an embankment into my pond in ORD 2021 release 1. The enbankment should be on the elevation 27.90 and the bottom level is on the elevation 27. I already created a solid element that presents the embankment (pink one):

My question is how can I trim this embankment to my terrain in the pond? Should I use other funktion than solid? Maybe mesh? But how can I trim it to my terrain? It supposed to look like this:

Winding Roads/Rivers, U shapes and Loops cause issues with point controls in Openroads.

I have a rough alignment in a river with two additional alignments on either side that represent the toe of slope. I created a template that essentially represents a river bottom with 2:1 slopes on either side. Whenever I try to add a point control that locks the toe of slope in my template to the toe of slope alignment, I get the behavior seen in the image. It appears that my point control extends to a farther portion of my alignment rather than the closer portion. In my template I have tried setting a horizontal max and that still does not work. I found a similar question asked in 2017 located here: Point control by horizontal alingnment in Road Designer - OpenRoads | OpenSite Forum - OpenRoads | OpenSite - Bentley Communities and was curious if this is still an issue 6 years later or if there is a way to fix this. I would like to avoid splitting up my alignments because this is a very long and winding river, and I would end up with about 10 alignments or so.

Undercut benching for fill slope

Good afternoon,

I've been trying to figure out how to properly set up a template to create benching for a fill slope (see the attached picture), and I'm struggling to get it right. As you can see in the attached detail, there are requirements for the bonding benches with regards to the depth below the existing ground, a minim horizontal length of bench, and maximum vertical length of bench. And I just can't figure out how to set that up. Not to mention the number of bonding benches in and of itself is variable as that all depends on what the existing ground is doing. It seems like I'd need some null point that essentially tracks the existing ground line, and then maybe additional null points that check the depth below the existing ground to be able to identify when/where to bring the benching vertical.

Is this something that can even be done in a template?

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

Sidewalk Template Constraints Challenge

Hello, I am currently in the process of creating an intersection in ORD and displaying the critical components (Curb and Sidewalk) in 3D. For the SW corner (first attached image), there is a smooth arc representing the curb and then the back of the sidewalk is a jagged line.

Ultimately my goal is to have the sidewalk tie into the curb (second attached image). I have also attached the file herecommunities.bentley.com/.../test9.dgn.
