For example, for a shear connection, if I wanted to keep (5) 3/4" bolts, but I wanted the program to optimize the plate thickness, I could manually make those selections.

Add a 3D view of the connection into the output report

Typically when printing out an output report for inclusion in a calculation package, I will also include a screenshot of the 3D connection detail view. They will always be listed and numbered in the order in which they were added. It would be great if there was a way to manually renumber or order them per user preference

It would be nice if the program had the ability to create a proper output report, that starts with the project info and allows the user to manually select which joints are included in the report, while also allowing formatting changes. Currently the report contains all joints, which cannot be removed, and does not contain the project info. I realize the data could be exported into word and manually edited, but having this feature would simplify things a lot

Idea Machine I

Share 5 ideas with the community

Remove the "opposite beam exists" feature, or make it do something

There seems to be a small number of modules that actually use the "opposite beam exists" checkbox, however most don't seem to be impacted by it.

For connections that don't use it, the option should either be removed, or the module should be updated to account for the opposite beam. Currently you could put a shear load of 1 billion kips into the box for the opposite beam, and it would tell you everything is fine.

There are cases, for example columns with beams framing in on both sides, where it would be nice to be able to design both connections in the same module. It seems like someone started to add this feature with the "opposite beam exists" checkbox, but it was never finished

What If...

Share an idea with the community

Add a setting to adjust or define default materials/properties

There should be a feature in RAM Connection settings where you can go in and define defaults to all the variables for the project and for the program in general.

For example, if I am doing a project where I have a series of connections, and I know that my plates on the project will always be A572 Gr 50 and WF members will always be A992 Gr 50, then I should be able to define that somewhere so that when I assign a connection, it always uses those parameters.

It's exhausting designing 20 shear connections where I have to go through and one by one update the material grades. Similarly with bolt sizes, I should be able to define what typical bolt sizes I want to use (for example, 7/8" and 1 1/8") so that when I use the optimize feature, it will always default to those sizes.

I understand there is a feature to create custom templates, however this is not an intuitive feature and seems time consuming compared to the proposed solution I described above.
