How to make one terrain model that covers 2 or more unconnected areas

When I import a DTM file that has several unconnected ditches in the same terrain model extra triangles are created to connect the areas. This gives incorrect volumes in quantity calculations.

The same happens when I try to create the terrain model from mesh elements. The best solution I can find is to use "Create terrain model from design meshes" this retains the element's boundaries but instead produces a terrain model for every single ditch area. This can end in 20 - 30 extra files.

Is it possible to make 1 terrain model that will cover all these ditch areas??

Hi, We recenty updated our ORD from 2019 R1 to 2021 R1 and have found that you can't import cant from an alg file anymore. Presumably we all have to have OpenRail now instead.

Does anyone know in which release this feature was removed?

Locate station via datapoint - unable to select aligment in reference file

Locate station via datapoint is a useful tool but it never works when I have the alignment contained in a read-only referenced file. Since referencing is the prefered way of working in ORD this is constantly a problem.

Does anyone have a fix for this? and I don't see activating the alignment reference file as satisfying solution

Is there any way to make one terrain model that covers several unconnected areas?

I need to model and calculate volumes for all the ditches beside a rail track. There are about 30 and they are separate from each other.

Whenever I try to make a single terrain model, either from element or alternate surface from corridor, they triangulate between and I can't delete the triangles. This is obviously incorrect and will lead to errors in the volume calculation.

As a work-around I thought about making a complex terrain by adding the individual ditch surfaces to the existing terrain but that is way too slow and creates a heavy file. The fastest solution I have is to make the 30 separate volume calcs and add them up in a spreadsheet.

[ORD 2019R1] End area volumes

Hi, I'm having trouble getting an output with end area volumes report. I'm comparing two terrain surfaces rather than a corridor but can't see that would be a problem, the cut/fill mesh looks fine. I'm working in the following sequence and can see that an XML section is added to the named boundary properties.

label terrain surfaces with exisiting and proposed feature definitions
Create cut fill mesh
Create named boundary cross sections
End area volumes report (selecting named boundary set made in step 3)

I even get a correct read out on the Volume.xls report - This would actually be sufficient but I want to place an EAV annotation on my drawing XS sheets and that takes values from the EAV report

Importing CSV files into ORD

Hi, I'm trying to import CSV files into OpenRoads (V8) using the text wizard. There is obviously some error as the points show up in red in the Explorer window and I can't see anything after I press fit to view. CSV file attached
