Reports tool duplicates item types when placing a parametric cell with attached item types

Hi everyone,

Software Version: MicroStation Connect Edition Update 17 Version 10.17.02.61

I am trying to create a cell library with item types attached to each cell. The attachment of item types is via the model of a specific cell as I want to be able to edit the item properties when cells are placed into the model (See screenshot 1). I saved my cell library using DGN extension as I want also to use named presentation capability.

When I place one cell from that library into my test model, the explorer shows the quantity of items as 1, however when I generate predefined report the quantity is shown as 2 (Screenshot 2). When I add second cell into my model, then the explorer will show 2 items and the report will show 3 (Screenshot 3). Please note that the report shows the correct number of item types if these are attached directly into the elements within the test model (not from cell library).

Does anyone know what might be wrong and why item types are duplicated with the placement of first cell?

ProjecWise CAD QA - Boundary Checks - Error

Hi Everyone,

On the project I am working on there is implemented CAD QA system. When I push the "DGN" model through CAD QA it shows that there is a problem with boundary check.

The CAD QA report shows me the list of element id's that are causing this issue.

When I try to find any of this element by ID in my "DGN" file, I got a message that the element could not be found.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue and would be able to help?

Role Specific DGNLIB with Item Types and Report Definition

Hi Everyone,

I am trying recently to learn a little bit more about MicroStation workspace, workset and role configuration files. I am currently using MicroStation Connect Edition Update 16 (Version 10.16.01.56).

My goal is to create a role specific (for Electrical, Civils, Telecomms disciplines) libraries for the following:

- Item Types

- Report Definition

I was able to load role specific Item Types library and Lookup table by adding the following lines into my role configuration file:

MS_DGNLIBLIST_ITEMTYPES 		> $(_USTN_WORKSPACEROOT)Roles/Electrical/Dgnlib/*.dgnlib

ITEMTYPE_LOOKUP 			    > $(_USTN_WORKSPACEROOT)Roles/Electrical/Itemlib/KAW_CarbonAssessmentLookup.xlsx

The MS_DNGLIBLIST_ITEMTYPES is only loading Item Types and does not load Report Definition which was saved in the same DGNLIB as Item Types. Is it possible to load report definition from the role level, so that only role specific reports will be loaded?

Please note that I am still learning, and I am not sure whether I loaded role specific Item Types and Lookup Tables in the right way. So, I appreciate your support.

Feature Request: Item Types Expression that will allow to calculate distance between point A and B

I am working as Electrical Engineer on Railway Infrastructure Projects. One of the latest client's requirement is to provide a carbon assessment for the proposed design. As a part of design we need to consider carbon contribution during manufacturing process, transportation from manufacturer to site, maintenance and installation. I thought that for the calculation of carbon contribution associated with transportation of equipment from manufacturer to construction site, it would be very useful if there is an expression for item types where:

First argument takes coordinates of point A
Second argument takes coordinates of point B,
Third argument takes type of transportation(car, train, flight

and the returned value is a distance between point A and B (I guess it could use Google Maps or Bing Maps API).

I could then create a cell library with item type attached into each of the cell with the following properties:

Company Name
Address,
Coordinates,
Transport Type,
Fuel Consumption,
Distance (calculated by expression, where first argument is Item Type Property "Coordinates", second argument takes the coordinates from the placement point of cell and the third one takes takes Item Type Property "Transport Type"

I guess that if MicroStation already allows to synchronise view with Google Earth and Bing Maps, implementing such expression would not be difficult and would be very useful.

Place Label - "Enable to create relative association to elements" is greyed out

Hi Everyone,

I was trying to create a label that automatically updates displayed value when associated with an element that has attached Item Type.

When I create element in new model and select Place Label, the function "Enable to create relative association to elements" is active. When the element is created in existing model (created by others) this function is greyed out.

Does anybody know why it is greyed out and how this can be enabled?

Below is a screenshot taken from the existing model.

I am currently using MicroStation Connect Edition Update 16 Version 10.16.01.56

Adding Item Field on a Cell

I was wondering how can I attach Item Fields (metadata) at the cell level and not to an element in the cell.

So when the cells are placed these Item Type Properties already exist or preset

So I would like to change the type of "MCB" Property Definition to "MCB" (STEP2). Similarly as it is done for the STEP 1.

Microstation connect DATABASE

Hello dear Forum,

I am trying to connect to a database (Excel / Access) from microstation Connect edition (without a third party apps.)

The purpose is to:

- be able to create report from stamps (room, walls, etc) but being able to modify the information on those stamps from a database or viceversa.

- create plansheet reports and plan lists also being able to modify them through a plan sheet.

For both of these I first need to be able to have a clear idea on how to connect it but I couldn't find a clear step by step explanation, so far.

I got my hands around Item types and I think I already mastered that part of the deal!

Maybe some of you know how to do this easily and would be kind enough to share some information?

Item Type Lookup with Arrays

I would like to use Item Types as a way to calculate quantities for transportation projects. I am using an "ItemNumber" field to lookup the item description as well as other information about the pay item. from a spreadsheet located in the workspace.

There are many instances when the same microstation element may have multiple pay items. For instance, a manhole we would pay for the manhole and the cover separately. I can make a property type called "Pay item" and use this to create an array of pay items on the microstation element. However, when I do this the lookup functionality fails. Anybody else try to do something like this with any success?

Microstation Connect - AccuDraw - Rotate to Element (RE)

Hi Everyone,

Anybody knows why AccuDraw does not rotate properly with some of the references (when using RE command)?

With one reference on my 3D model it works properly as shown on the screenshot below

but with other references as below

My AccuDraw settings are as follow:

There is no issues with RE command when using MicroStation V8i.
