Problem

Work Orders are sent to Maximo multiple times.

Solution

While the Work Orders are sent multiple times, the results are correct in both APM and Maximo. There will be little effect on performance. As such, you can be assured that the application is fine.

Installing ADPlus

This installation requires .Net 4.0 which is what is used for R6.2.3.

ADPlus a component in Microsoft’s “Debugging Tools for Windows” module, the “Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows x and .NET Framework ” package. Search for the appropriate version of the tool in the Microsoft download center.

Which version to download and install? The following is a guide to client and server operating system pairs:

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012
Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016

When installing, only the “Debugging Tools for Windows” module is necessary.

Both a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version will be installed. Only the 64-bit version is needed for server dumps.

After installation, ADPlus must be activated on the server. Before changing the settings, you will need to stop the instance that you are changing or the settings may not be saved.

Open the Ivara Server Settings Editor for the server instance to be set up with ADPlus.

Select the File menu, and then the Show Advanced Settings option.
In the Settings tree, select the Diagnostics node.
In the Process Dumps section:

Set “Adplus (x64) file path”, similar to the following: “C:\Program Files\Debugging Tools for Windows (x64)\adplus.exe” or “C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Debuggers\x64\adplus.exe”
Set “Monitor Process On Startup” to True.
Restart the server(s).

After restarting the server, you should see “Dumps” folder in the Default Log Directory (e.g., C:\ProgramData\Bentley\IvaraEXP\Logs\dumps”. In this folder you should find one or more folders for each server instance. Each server instance folder will have a “Crash_Mode” folder created each time the server is started. The folder is time-stamped with the start date and time, and suffixed with “_Crash_Mode”. When first-chance and second-chance exceptions occur, memory dumps will be written to these folders.

For each client crash and/or server crash, we will need the ADPlus folder that matches the server instance start date, which is typically the most recent folder. ã€€The easiest means to get the dumps to us is to zip the folder to include all its contents, and upload it to the customer folder on our FTP site. We also need the server log files. For client crashes, we also need the client log files. These can also be uploaded to the FTP site.

NOTE: If the memory dumps are harvested after the server is restarted, the most recent “Crash_Mode” folder will be for the currently running instance, and the folder we need would then be the second most-recent folder.

Data loader - Configuration Subscription Error

Problem

This happens when a user performs more than one data loading in the same sessions, please refer to the attached capture;

However, this is just one of the many scenarios, this error may occur randomly for any data loader and might not be episodic.
This is a hard stop as the app needs to be killed to overcome this.

Solution

A code change request has been created (VSTS 817535 ) and submitted to the product team to address this issue. The fix can be expected in upcoming releases.

Work around

These errors occur because the configuration had been modified but not saved when the user click the 'Import' button on the configuration. Back out of the import to either revert the changes to the configuration or save the configuration before you start an import.

Degradation Indicator shows wrong corrosion rate

Problem

This problem occurs when users re-calculates the corrosion rate of a degradation indicator after correcting one of the existing Measurement Point readings using the "Correct Reading" option;

Solution

A detailed code change request (#758491) has been submitted to the product team to mitigate this issue and the fix will be available in upcoming releases.

Workaround : Using the "Mark Reading as Incorrect” option to enter a fresh reading instead of the “Correct Reading” option, works perfectly fine without any error and the rates get calculated properly post a reading is changed/corrected by entering a fresh reading.

Unable to transfer asset between sites

Problem

This error populates when an user tries to transfer an asset from one site to another which are sister sites in the hierarchy and this error persists even after deleting and creating new transfers too;

Solution

In order to mitigate this error, we need to check if one or more standard tasks, for the asset(s) being transferred, appear to have a requirement with an invalid warehouse. Removing the warehouse reference, or deleting the requirement completes the transfer.

Purchase Notification Email for Store Individuals

Problem

This problem occurs when users enter a purchase requisition or reserve a resource item that needs to be purchased and they only get an email if they are marked as the 'Planner' on the work order task.

Solution

These settings can also be used to notify others via email i.e., when a part comes in so that when the Planner does enter it, he can rest assured that the person who ordered the part will also get the email notification in case Planner is away from the plant whenever said item is received.

Below are the mentioned roles which needs to be assigned to the respective individuals of a site for getting email notifications for purchase requisitions or for reserving a resource to be purchased:

1. Purchaser/Buyer - Preview - On, Documents – On, Purchases – On, Quotation – On
2. Manager - Preview - On, Documents – On, Purchases – Off, Quotation – Off
3. Maintenance/Operations end-user - Preview – Off, Document – Off, Purchases – Off, Quotation – Off
4. Service User - Preview – Off, Document – Off, Purchases – Off, Quotation – Off

NOTE : Service user also needs to have a value email account, verified with the Email Admins. Also, Outlook needs to be fully installed on the Servers performing services, including the app server, and the Service User’s email account(s) need to be defined on those servers. Service user’s Personnel profile needs to be linked with the Service’s Username in APM.

Next Job Triggers based on WO closed date instead of completion date

Problem

Users have been complaining that the upcoming WOs are not coming out when they are supposed to be due instead they get triggered when previous work orders are closed. The system doesn't take the WO completion date to set the next trigger but the actual date when the WOs was closed. This doesn't happen just for one particular job but this affects all jobs on all sites.

Solution

A VSTS (#624749) work item has been raised for this and it will be available in the future releases. However, there is a suggested workaround as the APM system has Close Completed Tasks Action that can be scheduled. Perhaps, using this, one should set “Preventive maintenance” work types to auto close after a small number of days. This may alleviate the seriousness of the problem.

Standard Job triggering 1st of every month

Problem

This happens when a user sets a triggering rule with an exception for the standard job 1st of every month of the calendar days. However, after a while the standard job starts deviating to different days of the month.

Solution

Standard job triggering rules do not support the ability to say 'on the first day of the month' . Jobs can be triggered every 30 days or 31 days, but neither of these will stay aligned with the first day of each month

One way to fix the triggering to the first day of each month is to enter a triggering rule with 'trigger on' option selected and the first day of the month entered as the date the job is to be triggered on. A separate rule is required for each month of each year. Ex. to define the triggers for the first day of each month, 120 triggering rules would have to be entered.

Another approach requires the creation of a calculated indicator which involves defining the indicator (on any asset) with a formula of 1. It does not require any inputs. On the frequency tab set the pattern to trigger the indicator on the first day of each calendar month. This will result in the creation of a reading with a value of 1, on the first day of each month (assuming they have schedule for the calculate indicators scheduled action). On the standard job define the job to trigger based on the a reading value of 1 for the calculated indicator.

Users getting error while opening PDF or any other attachments in APM

Problem

This happens when an user adds a PDF or any other attachment but other than this user, others users are unable to view(or gets error) the attachment in APM database;

Solution

This is because the embedded check box wasn’t checked off. The file hasn’t been saved in the database, therefore only the user who uploaded it can see it only.

To resolve this, the user has to create the attachment again and check off the box to have the file embedded as shown below;

APM MCLB Configuration performance tips

When a user reports that they are facing slowness in performance for a specific MCLB configuration, may be that the SQL query is very complex.
For ex: The Asset Heath Index query was reported as being slow and query analysis identified that the filtering was problematic.

Solution

Solution: - To improve the performance, we can send the SQL query to the respective DBA and ask them to investigate or add indexes to the database.
In this case DBA recommended to remove the filters. DBA should analyse the query plan to see how it can be improved by:

-removing table scans

-adding indexes

-removing unnecessary tables from the query (remove columns from configuration)

Alternatively, try not making the configuration with too many filters as the default configuration in MCLB, or add strategic filters to limit data set returned

NOTE: - Try making the configurations less complex with less filters/ make the default configuration as simple as possible

General performance advice on infra maintenance

Problem

What recommendations should be shared with users for a better performance of the app servers, SQL server and Server Manager?

Solution

General advice should include users logging out daily, restarting servers weekly and more memory on SQL Server (on-prem) will have a positive affect on database performance if all else is properly tuned and maintained.

Note : - The server doesn't have a lot of disk needs, so a ssd will give better performance, more ram, and more processor cores, these all can lead to a better performance app server. A responsive network to the database server (high bandwidth, low latency) will give a big gain too. And on the DB, the faster the disks and the more cpu's and ram the better.

APM License Disabled Post Certificate Renewal

Problem
The below error comes when user renews an expired windows certificate and the licensing tool shows the products offline and doesn't connect to the select server;

Solution

To resolve this, do a search for Certificates from the Start menu, and select “Manager computer certificates” from the search results. Then ensure DST Root CA X3 is present in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities > Certificates folder as shown below:

Execute the following command from an Administrator Command Prompt to disable encryption for licensing transmissions;
reg add HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Bentley\Licensing\1.1 /v UseSSL /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Resolving Create Unique Index UserGroup on OQ.UserGroup in Remote download

Problem

This happen when user receives an error on the download to the remote: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX UserGroup ON OQ.UserGroup;

Solution

The error is caused by 2 records remaining in the delivered database which should not be there. to resolve;

1) restore the delivered remote database
2) delete the contents of oq.usergroups
3) backup the delivered remote database
4) replace the delivered database with your backup. The database name should be RemoteInstall, the logical file names should be 'Ivara' and 'Ivara_log'. The backup file name should be remoteinstall.bak for this to function and placed on the server where the remote packager will be executed

Note : Development mentioned that there were two rows that were accidentally in the delivered remote install databases and are now removed from the main install database. They further checked the remote install and the rows are no longer there.
