IFC for OBM

In November 2020 a new release of IFC Specification (IFC 4.3 RC2) was issued. The question is if Benley has any road map (plans) for implementation of this "standard" into Open Bridge Modeler together with export to IFC format. Another issue is adding the feature of additional coding e.g. the way it is possible in Open Building Designer now - is it considered?

Modelling prestressing

Duplicate (clone) entire member reinforcemet

I'm looking for the efficient way to make a copy of all reinforcement for the concrete member. In my case it is a beam that need to be shifted and 180 degrees rotated. I have found a post refered to the similar issue but it is desribing possible approach for ProConcrete v8i version - PROSTRUCTURE REBAR (COPY, MIRROR, ROTATE) - ProConcrete Forum - ProStructures - Bentley Communities

How about CE version? I was tryinig moving rebars with both "Move rebar" command and standard Microstation "move" command. None of these tries have been sucessfull. And what about rotation? Is there any effective way for rebar rotating?

export ProConcrete to IFC with an extra data

Hi,

I would like to add some „extra” information to the rebar definitions that will be exported to IFC, e.g. add name GROUP_1 to different reinforcement sets (beams, columns, single bar, etc.) that will be “visible” in IFC file (custom data record). Is there any way to do it using ProConcrete? Is Assignment tab a good place to search such a possibilities - Part family/Description? May these records(fileds) be exported to IFC?

Control points

I would like to change the bridge edge route. For this purposes I have developed complex chain representing desired edge in horizontal projection. But trying apply it to the section (point P_2) the following message is being displayed. What is wrong ? What does it mean "missing a linear path to follow"? and "select a path for each of these points" - which points? There is only one point P_2.

Shape catalogues

Hi,

I would like to use profiles/sections defined in c:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings CONNECT Edition\Configuration\Datasets\Dataset_UK\Data\Polish.xml but I can't find defined shapes in the list displayed during steel beams insert. When I'm displaying Shape catalog sections defined in the file mentioned above are not displayed as well. I will be grateful for some advice how to make file Polish.xml available.

RM Draw Manager

I' m looking for RM Draw Manager manual, one of the RM Bridge Extars. When launched and help form menu bar is being chosen "Power Bridge Documentation Center" manual written in July 2014 is displayed. It doesn't correspond exactly to the current RM Draw Manager - seems to be a help for the former version of this tool called Power Bridge Documentation Center(?). Is such a manual available?

IFC setting format and rounding precision

We deliver to our customer reinforcement IFC models. Customer based on the model preparing bill of quantities using some dedicated software. The point that is by default all components of Pset_ProStructures_Rebar_Properties and Pset_ProStructures_RebarAssembly_Properties are written to IFC file as a strings, and the customer software reading reinforcement weight (mass) expects numbers.

I have change weight mapping inside IfcElementAssembly.att and IfcReinforcingBar.att files from IfcLabel to IfcMassMeasure. Finally IFC file contains numbers (double) with unit (kg). But values are given rounded to kilograms. Is there any way to set custom rounding precision for IFC weight attribute? If so how to do it?

By the way, is the Mapping Options available within ProStructure, the way it is implemented if Open Building Designer? Or the manual edit of *.att file is the only way to control IFC file content?

ProConcrete PartList Creation dialog doesn't appear

Hello,

I'm using ProStructures version 10.05.00.54 (update 5) and I need to update models that where made with ProStructures update 4. The point is when I want to create new part list pressing button "Create Concrete Partlist" doesn't work. Partlic Creation popup dialog is not being displayed. What could be a reason of that - file version incompatibility?

I would be grateful for any advice.

OBM Input Report & Point Control

I have developed model with several bridge structures. For some of them I can't generate Input Report – message “Object reference not set to an instance of an object” is being displayed. What is wrong with structure/bridge definition? Is there any way to fix it?

For decks created with “Place Advanced Deck” option “Point Control” is not available. Is it “intentional” limitation? I’m working with OBM CE Update 8.1, version 10.08.01.78. How about Update 8.2 – is this limitation still kept?

I’ve just installed new version of OBM (update 8.1, version 10.08.01.78) and I have faced a little bit strange software behaviour. Some of the support line and descriptions has started to be displayed extremely large, even the Annotation Scale is on. How to make it bask adjusted to current scale. The fact is I can’t find any rule why some descriptions a following active annotation scale and some others not. "Large" and scaled support line description is shown below.

The other issue is placing bearing. I’ve made a first try and the final effect is a little bit strange. Bearing settings are shown below, and the effect in the cross section. What is wrong with bearing vertical position? What is the reference line for position transverse offset? Neither distances to alignment CL (3.638m / 2.317m) nor to the pier CL (2.808m / 3.192m) correspond to the value of 3m from bearing definition dialog. How to manage bearing’s position?

OBM barriers for deck made with Place Advanced Deck

I have noticed that for deck made with Place Advanced Deck command barriers dialog for reference line is limited to "Select Alignment", while for standard Place Deck command two options are available, both "Select Alignment" and "Select Guideline from List". Is it possible to insert barrier using "Select Guideline from List" for "Advanced Deck"? I will be grateful for any advice.

Export tendons from RM Bridge to OBM

I would like to export tendons layout from RM Bridge to OBM. Unfortunately section "Extras" in RMBridgeE_UGUIDE.pdf hasn't been updated with "Export data to OBM" yet. When "Export data to OBM" is being launched pop-up dialog is being displayed. Field OBM file is expected to fill with "xml" file name or to point the existing file. I have put the name "TEST.xml". Error message "File not found" has been displayed.

Pointing any existing xml file result is information "OBM file not in right format. Missing root node" given in command line. How to create the correct xml file and how to write data into it?

And some other issue(s).

A.
In OBM when LEAP Bridge is selected (Update option) the dialog for selecting xml file is being displayed. The same action for RM Bridge works in different way. After selecting option for "Create solid for tendon" information pop-up is shown - "<-RMNoTendonsFile->". Does it refer to the "missing" xml file ?

B.
OBM model is prepared in "real" coordinates and the RM Bridge model for local coordinate system (X,Z axes of RM LCS are parallel to X,Y axes of GCS). Is it possible to "shift" tendons to the correct position?

OBM Excavations 2

One more issue regarding OBM excavation. I haven't found any explanation for "Combined excavation" (forum, advisor, help for version 10.07.03.23 -https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/OpenBridge%20Modeler%20Help-v11/en/obm_Place_Excavation.html).

I have been expected that for this option in case of excavation overlaping the overlap volume is taken only once calculating summary volume. Especially that "Combined excavation".option turns of "Allow overlaping" option. So the excavation volume calculated with "Combined excavation" option should be less than sum of volumes calculated for single foundations - of course when excavations overlap each other. But no matter how the excavation volumes are calculated (individually or as a "Combined excavation") the volumes are the same. Where did I go wrong?
