Feature definitions...placement of cels in xsections...powergeopak ss10

I have existing utilities files that have feature definitions assigned in both alignment and profile and the profiles for the alignments are active. The feature definitions have an element template defined that have a cel associated with the point. The cel library is attached and the utilities file is attached to the file I am cutting cross sections in. The feature definitions from the dgnlib used to create the utilities file and the element templates are copied into the file I am cutting the sections in, so they are active in that file. No utility cels show up when i cut cross sections. If I open the file where the utilities are located, attach my proposed corridors and exist terrain and cut the sections in that file, the utility cels show up in cross sections. What I am missing here? Thanks for your help, Brian.

openroads project configuration file

The majority of our projects our done thru projectwise and the resources needed are loaded by projectwsie. Sometime we will have a project that we have to work on locally on individual machines. Txdot provides a local workspace and it works well except for one thing. I would like to change where the programs is looking for the itl. It would be convenient if I could put the itl in the local project directory so I edited one line in the pcf.

CIVIL_ROADWAY_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY = $(_TXDOT_PROJECT_GPK)Template/TxDOT_Civil_Templates.itl

CIVIL_ROADWAY_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY = C:/_projects/8441603/openRoads/itl/8441603.itl

Hardwiring the location of the itl. it works, it defaults to this location and finds the itl. But....it no longer finds other resources such as..earthwork preferences or cut cross section preferences. When I try and access those menus they are now empty.

I do not understand why editing this one line would cause this.

super not being applied

Super is not being applied in one of my corridors. i can see it point control and the correct points are set. i can see the purple squares that indicate where it should be. i have deleted the points from point control, closed/opened the file and reapplied the super. same results. Has anyone seen this before? thanks for your help. Brian

Creating 3d cels for metal beam guard fence.

Need to show metal beam guard fence in a model and looking for instruction on how to create the cel needed to do that and then how that cel is applied. I have found some instruction on applying already created cels but looking for something deeper than that. Thanks for your help. Brian

reducing complexity of exist terrain model

I have a project where the client has provided the exist terrain model. The model was created from multiple sources and when it is turned on (exist boundary only) the file slows to a crawl. It has been clipped to just cover the project. The file is not "monster size" so I think it may be because of the complexity of coming from multiple sources. Any solutions? Thanks, Brian

cutting cross-sections

I need to cut sections and need to match what had been done by a for employee. That includes placement on sheet and the sheet itself. I am assuming that information is stored in the "preferences" but what file is read by openroads that stores the information in preferences? I am using SS4. Thanks, brian

controlling colors of components in template library

I am doing leading a discussion template building. I wanted to have the people in the discussion to to view a template library on their local hard drive. When i set this up all of the created components are gray. Waht controls the color of the components within a template library. Thanks for your help, brian

OSD import/export feature definitions

I'm trying to export and import feature definitions using OpenSite Designer. The Learn Server has a video for exporting/importing feature definitions using OpenRoads Designer, but it isn't working in OSD.

Anyone know if this feature just doesn't work in OSD?

feature definition tab in element information

I can blame this on my own clumsiness. I accidently hit the popup "hide" in the tab in element information for features. I now only have the feature name listed but not the feature definition. This seems like something that should be obvious....but I haven't found a solution. Has anyone here had to address this issue? Many thanks, Brian

parent/child relationship vs display rules

I recently watched a SIG presentation where the presenter was using a parent /child relationship to turn off/on the proposed median. I have always used display rules to do this. I was curious if anyone knew if there was advantage to doing it with the parent/child relationship as opposed to doing it with display rules. Maybe one uses more memory than the other? Thanks Brian

Import a stormCad *.stsw file into openroads subsurface utlility

I have been asked to add stormCad data to my openroads model .I created a new file and under subsurface utility there is a project/import/import *.stsw tab. When I do that it goes thru the process of creating the utility model but when it finishes I get the message "import into default failed". I have no experience with stormCad so looking for some explanation of what is missing that is causing the import to fail or a link that has more information (or both!).

terrain model from multiple corridors

Looks like the way to go about it is to change the design stage of the corridors to final mesh, create a file and attach the corridors to that file. then use the create terrain models from element tool, choosing the final mesh….but what about the civil cels. how do you get a final mesh of a civil cel to add to the terrain model. thanks for your help, brian

change slope of end condition to stay within ROW

I want the slope of an end condition to change if the tie in point lands outside row. I have created a do not construct end condition that targets the row (defined by feature definition). I have 2 slopes (4:1 and 3:1) that start at a hinge point and extend a length past the row line. The end of each slope is defined by the slope value and horizontally tied to end of the do not construct component. This drags the tie in points of each slope to the row. 4:1 is set to priority 1 and 3:1 set to priority 2. If the 4:1 does not encounter NG when dragged to match ROW if should fail and default to the 3:1. this works when I test it but when I apply it to my corridor it always just shows the 4:1 which lands outside ROW.

Looking for idea of what I may be doing wrong and/or suggestions on better ways to do this.
