Bentley BD uses specialist Forms, straight from original 1993 BricsWork, which Bentley bought in 1995. BD can also, as a workaround, make use of standard Bentley Microstation dgnSolids with BIM data (Parts) applied, same as BricsBIM applies Materials to dwgSolids, but it's unsatisfactory for several reasons -

While BD Forms have the vital ability to be multi-layered into Compound Parts for grouped installation and modification, that ability is lost when using Bentley dgnSolids as workaround instead of BD Forms.

While BD Forms have another vital ability, to effectively Extend To as well as Trim Back to Connect to other Forms, that ability is much degraded when using Bentley dgnSolids as workaround instead of BD Forms - dgnSolids can only be Booleaned, after being manually stretched to overlap.

While Bentley dgnSolids enjoy a very sophisticated PushPull tool, using this (and most other dgnSolid Bollean tools) on a BD Form results in its demotion to a 'dumb' dgnSolid, losing the important abilites of BD Forms mentioned above.

While BD Forms do have the ability to effectively Extend To as well as Trim Back to Connect to other Forms, that is fatally limited, only Wall end to Wall end, and Wall top to Roof underside. BD Forms fuss a lot as to which is their Top, Bottom, Ends and Sides, and refuse to Connect in most of the combinations.

Putting all of this together, the effect is that Bentley BD is fine for conventional commercial cuboid office blocks and 'decorated sheds' but struggles with any creative shapes, even quite ordinary intersecting pitched roofs.
BD has tools to create a limited range of dumb roof-shape blobs, but it very soon fails in creating novel roofs out of intersected full-ability BD Forms.
BD also has tools for creating complex slabs - but similarly crippled by inability to do so as multi-layered Compound Parts;

Placing Ramp

Can anyone tell me how to place ramp in AecoSIM SS5?
1. When an element is selected, the Mstn Properties Panel automatically updates. Bravo! But the OBD properties are grey'd out.

2. OK. User needs to access these properties using the Modify Properties tool which displays the properties in the Modify Instance Data Panel. But, the MID panel does not automatically populate when the OBD element is selected. Will this be implemented at some point?

If not, it would be good if the Property > MID panel can host the Modify Properties tool. This would avoid the need to move back to the Ribbon and back again to the MID panel. A lot more intuitive and quicker to use.

We need a lot more functionality for connection modelling without the need to shop drawings. Maybe split the package into modelling with an extra cost for full shop detailing.

I can see this tool being used quite a bit.

Great to note that there is now the option to use Parametric Cells for the panels.

Going forward, it would be great to be able to also define a Parametric Cell for the mullions / transoms as well.

I understand that Parametric Cells would be able to leverage the new Named Presentations functionality, replacing Compound Cells. This will allow the user to get a higher LOD, more detailed representation of the mullions, jambs. sills etc for the drawings. Things like hatches/fills for the different materials, details like cappings etc would not really be required in 3d or when developing the overall design but will be great to have automatically generated for the drawing output. Embellishing miles of the stuff for an office tower project -for example- would be tedious and expensive.

For example, I have elements that have the following type IDs: IF01, IF02, IF03... I want the schedule to capture all elements that contain the '"IF" prefix.

I know there are the following operations are available:

in, not in, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, equal to, not equal to

The AECOsim help does not appear to elaborate on the exact behavour of each of these or whether wildcards can be used.
