Ali has 18 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and has been involved in a wide range of challenging industry/research projects. Ali joined University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in 2009 and worked on an industry project sponsored by Menard studying different aspects of soft soil improvement using preloading technique aided by vertical drains. Ali successfully developed an advanced numerical code and a fully instrumented laboratory apparatus for accurate and reliable simulation of PVD assisted preloading process.
Ali rejoined industry in 2014 and since then has been involved in major infrastructure projects in Australia as a practitioner contributing in all design phases, proof engineering, reviewing/verification of designs, site inspections, construction phase services, risk assessment and preparation of reports/technical documents. He has collaborated with leading multi-disciplinary companies (e.g. AECOM & SMEC) and worked with many engineers from other disciplines, a variety of clients and major joint ventures. Ali has extensive experience in using numerical methods to carry out all manner of technically challenging designs with a complex range of geotechnical issues.
Ali has been elected as the Chair of Sydney Chapter of Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) for term 2022-2023. Ali was the coordinator of AGS Sydney Chapter annual Symposium from 2017 to 2021. He also represents Australia in two technical committees (TC103/Numerical Methods & TC207/Soil-Structure Interaction) of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
