list of license cross reference

Is there a list somewhere that states with a product "A" license you can run products "B", "C" o "D"? I know that inroads automatically upgraded to openroads at renewal but what options do we have available? Maybe this is where open access is a benefit for the user. Haven't seen one so far.

changing dimension style on a note makes you need to replace note

This has been a problem for some time now and I'm wondering if anyone has ever come up with a resolution. I know notes are kind of a *** where they aren't really text or dimension but yet we need to be able to use them on a daily basis. If a note is placed and then later it is found that it was made using the wrong dimension style or text style you can change the text height by changing the text properties and update the arrow size using using the change dimension but the in line leader and text placement never seems to adjust properly. We have always needed to place the note again which is very time consuming. The problem I have is illustrated in the picture below:

If I change the scale from 1"=1' to say 1.5"=1' in the model I get the results below:

If I place a new note and then change the scale everything works as it should. It seems to only be a problem if you change the dimension style after it was placed. BTW everything is using annotation scale just to be clear.

user not getting right click context menu

We have one user that is not getting the right click context menu. When I open the Customize menu, I can see that the GUI.dgnlib is not being loaded which is where these are held so I believe that is the problem. I thought it would be simple enough to copy that dgnlib from another machine and put it on his machine but when I search the C drive, for dgnlib that one isn't showing up. Where in the world is this file stored?

IPLOT - very slow

Our office recently added iplot while our main office has had it for a while now without any trouble. Everyone in our office is having all kinds of problems with iplot being VERY slow to load the ips files and then if you need to change any of the settings it seems to take forever for the dialog box to come up and then it takes a while to apply the settings to the files. There is something that is making our configuration slower than the main office. Has anyone had any similar problems?

I just today timed the time it takes to plot through Iplot and it took 7 minutes to update, assign a set file and print 4 files while through print organizer using the same iplot scripts took just 30 seconds. I posted this yesterday in another forum but I don't think many people go into that one so I re-posted. I know, I'm bad.

Logical Names in References

Can someone explain the benefits of using logical names for reference files if you ARE NOT going to use logical names to post process your plots? This is the only benefit to using logical names that I could find and was curious if anyone uses them for any other purpose.

Live Chat Not Working - Resolution Units

I have been trying to do the live chat and I've tried it through Firefox and Chrome and it just never comes up correctly so I'm posting this here hoping someone get's back to me quickly.

We have files that were done with resolution units of 1000/m while the entity we are working for says to use 1000/survey feet. Our cadd manager says this will cause large problems when referencing. I have tested it with 3 files with different resolutions and the files come in where they belong. Need confirmation as to whether this will be an issue.

User Preferences on Network

I know for whatever the reason, Bentley recommends NOT storing the user preferences on the network. Our company does do this so that you can go to any machine/office and pull up your preferences without having to setup everything again. My question lies in what is the major drawback to storing it on the network? I recently updated my machine to SS3 and now it takes forever going in and out of files and the icons at the top flash on and off the whole time it is loading a file. My button bars occasionally move around on me also which is really annoying. Also what are all the xml files that are in the directory with your user preferences?

working units different in different references

We received a couple of references from our subs in which all have master units set to survey feet but some have sub units as also survey feet and others say inches. I don't think this is as much of a problem as the resolution units are different between them. some are 1000/SF and others are 10000/m.

I was working in inroads the other day and used their file that had their surface triangles to import into my surface. Everything seemed to be correct at the time but now when I open that file the triangles I displayed are shifted from the location from the reference which I used to bring them in. The resolution in the file I was using is set to 10000/ft which I believe is completely wrong. I'm wondering if someone can explain how Microstation deals with files when they have the resolution set differently.

I'm using the latest version of MS as I just installed it last week. 08.11.09.459

new variables in latest release

I'm upgrading our office from ss2 to ss3 update 2 and I was unable to find a list of what variables have been change or added in the preferences and configs. Previous releases always had a list for the admins so you could know what needed to be set in the new workspaces. I did see that they brought back the deployment packaging after many years of asking for it. Problem is our office has downsized to the point where it's no longer really needed.

Anyhow, anyone know where I can find these variables?

survey feet/int feet when referencing in dwg

I just want to start out and say that the whole survey feet / international foot issue is the worst thing Bentley has ever done. This issue has been going on for years now and it still is a problem that many people don't know about let alone know how to deal with it.

Anyhow,

I have a dwg file that was provided to us by our surveyor. Normally our surveyors give us everything in MS but this was not our normal surveyors. I open the file in autocad to check the coordinates of one of the buildings and it gives me:2633452.4295,283153.4119. Sounds good. Open up a blank (seed) file that has survey feet as the working units and I reference in the autocad file check the same point and I get 2633447.1626,283152.8456. Well, that's not right. So I open another seed file using int. feet and then reference it in and check it and now it matches the autocad coords.

I thought this was fixed in Microstation and it was smart enough to adjust based on your working units. It also doesn't ask me when referencing in the autocad file what units to use.

Anyone able to shed some light on this?

Select series 2 - edit text inserting fraction

We have a new machine with windows 7 and MS 08.11.07.443. When the employee first tried editing text, he would click on the text and it would dissapear on the screen. I switched from word processor to dialog box and it seemed to work correctly. This was a temp fix. The next day I uninstalled and reinstalled MS along with the prereq pack and now when he edits text it doesn't dissapear but it inserts a 1/64 fraction in front of the text he changes. The same file with the same version of MS but running XP works fine.

Any help would be appreciated as I've never seen anything like this.

dimension arc length

Someone else brought this up in the 2004 group but didn't get an answer. There used to be a way to dimension an arc length. You could cycle between degrees and length by pressing space. Why this was changed, I don't know. There is a setting in the dimension style to have it do length or angle but that seems stupid as you would need to setup a dimension style for each. I found a key-in command that does exactly what I'm looking for but I haven't been able to find the button to do it. DIMENSION ARC SIZE

Anyone have an answer?

Dimension with leader dot terminator

When using the dimension with leader and the dot terminator we have always thought the dot was too small. We have tried numerous things but the size of the dot is linked to the arrowhead size (and text) so there is no way to change just the dot. The origin symbol looks to be the correct size but it's not filled in. We've resorted to just placing a filled circle over the end of the line. The other opion would be to create a cell but I'm curious as to where it get's the symbol it is using now. All it says is default. Is it in the standard fonts or is it built into MS?

Anyone have an idea?

windows 7 machine cutting off borders when printing to kyocera copier

We have a new machine running windows 7 and MS 08.11.07.443 that we we plot to our Kyocera copier it cuts off the bottom and right side of our 11x17 prints. It plots to our HP plotter just fine and all other machines plot the same file just fine. Is there something in the windows driver that could be telling MS that it can print edge to edge when it can't? I know the drivers from one OS to the other are different so I thinking that it has something to do with that but I'm not sure what to do about it. This is why I liked bentley drivers and not windows ones.
